WHAT IS THE CAMP’S MISSION AND PHILOSOPHY? Our mission is to build character, create community, and inspire excellence. Through extraordinary experiences in a diverse and inclusive performing arts setting, we aim to empower every student. WHAT SAFETY MEASURES ARE IN PLACE? Each camp has a site coordinator who checks kids in and out of camps. Staff and instructors are easily identifiable, aware of emergency procedures, and keep all site areas clean. WHAT IS THE CAMPER-TO- COUNSELOR RATIO? Each camp has a 1 instructor/10 camper ratio on average. Our instructors hold degrees in their areas of expertise. HOW ARE STAFF MEMBERS SCREENED AND TRAINED? All staff members and instructors are interviewed and background-checked. IS THERE A DAILY SCHEDULE, AND CAN YOU PROVIDE AN EXAMPLE? The schedule depends on the type of camp and varies. Instructors review daily schedules with students at the beginning of each day. WHAT IS THE CAMP’S MISSION AND PHILOSOPHY? We take children of all abilities (beginner to advanced) and help them level-up in one week! We have 16 original chess lessons followed by 16 super-fun team competitions and activities! WHAT SAFETY MEASURES ARE IN PLACE? Children are supervised at all times and the only outdoor activities occur on a child-friendly playground with safety approved playground equipment. Staff has a first-aid kit. Chess activities are indoors! WHAT IS THE CAMPER-TO- COUNSELOR RATIO? We adhere to a strict camper-to- counselor ratio of 10:1 (or less). HOW ARE STAFF MEMBERS SCREENED AND TRAINED? All of our camp staff members have been background checked and have passed our PALS Chess Coach Certification. We conduct on-going training on classroom management 4 times a year! IS THERE A DAILY SCHEDULE, AND CAN YOU PROVIDE AN EXAMPLE? Daily schedule: 20-30 minute Lesson 45-60 minute Activity/competition break
ARE THERE OPPORTUNITIES FOR FREE PLAY OR DOWNTIME? Time is allotted for breaks, snack time, and downtime. HOW DOES THE CAMP HANDLE HEALTH ISSUES AND ALLERGIES? If a student is sick for any reason, PAA asks that they stay home until symptom- free for 24 hours. Instructors are notified about allergies. ARE THERE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS TO VISIT OR PARTICIPATE IN CAMP ACTIVITIES? Summer Theatre Skills Camps feature a Shareformance for family members to see what the child learned throughout camp. Summer Shows feature a stage production at the end of the session.

We have two 15-minute breaks and a 1-hour lunch. We also have a reset and rally area where campers can go if they get stressed or overloaded! HOW DOES THE CAMP HANDLE HEALTH ISSUES AND ALLERGIES? Our registration process includes a place for parents to detail any allergies or mental or physical health issues, so our staff knows what to expect before day one of camp! ARE THERE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS TO VISIT OR PARTICIPATE IN CAMP ACTIVITIES? All parents are invited to the last 90 minutes of camp to observe a chess demonstration and an end-of-camp auction, where the kids bid on items using their “camp cash”.
