The story of the ANCC’s Women’s 18-Hole Golf Organization (WGO-18) is one of progress, competition, camaraderie, and an unwavering love for the game that continues to inspire generations of women both on and off the course. With 100 years of ANCC history now celebrated, we are embarking on the upcoming centennial of WGO-18. Officially established in 1927, WGO-18 originally catered to the wives of military officers who enjoyed partici- pating in inter-service competitions. As women’s roles changed in society, so did the role of golf for women. With the formation of ANCC’s Women’s Nine Hole Or- ganization for the more recreational women golfers and the subsequent establishment of the ANCC’s Career Women’s Golf Organization for women in the work- force, along with the opening of ANCC to non-military members, WGO-18 continued to be the primary ANCC women’s group offering accomplished golfers the opportunity to compete together while enjoying the camaraderie of women who shared the same passion. This competitive spirit has flourished, leading members to achieve success in tournaments across Virginia, the DMV area, and the U.S., evolving into a vibrant commu- nity of talented female golfers.
