It Takes a Village
Many public and private organizations are working together to ensure quality, affordable housing in Atlanta, including faith-based organizations. In fact, Invest Atlanta has a forgivable loan program to support the creation of affordable housing on sites owned by religious institutions. The Faith-Based Initiative Micro Loan Program is funded through the City’s Housing Trust Fund and administered by Invest Atlanta. Providing up to $25,000 per project, the program helps faith-based organizations engage in pre- development work and site due diligence to create affordable housing, such as appraisals, surveys and architectural renderings. Mayor Andre Dickens announced the launch of the $500,000 forgivable loan program as part of the City of Atlanta’s Faith-Based Development Initiative (FBDI) in late 2023. The first loan recipients include Providence Missionary Baptist Church, Church of God and Saints of Christ, RIZE Empowerment and Development Corp, The Path Church and The Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
