MARCH 2025
As we all know, earthquakes and other natural disasters may occur at any time in Southern California. In an effort to be prepared for such an event, the ORPS Safety & Security Committee conducted their annual Emergency Response Team (ERT) drill a few weeks ago. The ERT consists of volunteer ORPS owners who are willing to provide assistance when the city/county fire departments & paramedic personnel are unavailable. The ERT boasts over 25 volunteers and is divided into two primary groups – Rescue Team and First Aid/ Medical Team. Volunteers include retired firefighters, law enforcement personnel, EMTs, medics, doctors and nurses, as well as those with experience in the business world & farming. This year ’ s drill participants included 21 of our ERT members, 5 Safety & Security Committee members, 3 ORPS Security Staff and 17 ORPS volunteer patients. The drill focused on skills that are most likely to be used in the event of an emergency. For example:
1. Hand Held Radios –
effective usage &
communication 2. Backboards – safely securing and transporting injured patients 3. Triage – quick & effective assessment of injuries/ treatment in a mass casualty scenario 4. Generators & Scene Lights – quickly setting up power & lighting where needed 5. Patient Carry Tarps – safely securing & transporting injured patients
The feedback from this year ’ s drill was very positive. Best practices were shared, feedback to improve future drills was discussed, and additional equipment acquisitions were recommended. A special “ thank you ” goes out to all ERT members and the volunteers who did an amazing job with their role playing as injured patients. The Safety & Security Committee and Emergency Response Team are always seeking additional owner volunteers. If you would like to learn more about either of these groups and/or become a member, then please reach out to the Safety & Security Committee. Thank you!

Past Golf What a fantastic month of exciting golf here at ORPS. We, your golf committee, would like to thank all of you for making the last 30 days one of the best months of this season. We had the Three Club Tournament at the end of January and just finished the Sweetheart Tournament. When we look back at the Sweetheart Tournament, just days ago, we hope that your Golf Committee gave you one fun golf event that left you with as many happy memories as we got putting it on for you. We had a great tournament with lots of fun and a shot at a $1,000 shopping spree for a hole in one on hole #4, sorry to say that not one of the 286 players were lucky enough to walk away with it, but still there were over 120 gifts handed out and a darn fine light lunch too. A great big thank you to all of the people that made this year ’ s tournament so successful. Check it out We hope that all of you have found your way to the Facebook page with information by our golf coordinator, it is www.facebook.com/groups/531772913252736 for anyone that has not seen it, please check it out. This page is for information and positive things about golf. Coming Golf Before we talk again, we will have the Hole in One Tournament, this one is for owners that have gotten a hole in one here at ORPS. Then we will enjoy the friendly competition of the CanAm Tournament with two person teams of like handicaps doing battle for their country against your wonderful neighbors and friends. Now we look at March and the ORPS Club Champion ’ s will have been crowned. This is the one event that allows all owners of like ability to play head - to - head to the best of their abilities for three days of golf, if you are lucky enough to endure the first two. Let us keep up the great interest in our events and join your friends and neighbors for all the fun we have left this season. The weather is warmer, and you can play even later in the evening, so please stay safe and stay clear of the incoming stray balls when you are waiting for your next tee shot. Tee it up, line it up and keep - up, so we all can enjoy the greatest par three in town. John Mullins - Golf Secretary/Treasurer

You may have heard the expression “ one man ’ s trash is another's man ’ s treasure. ” Basically it refers to what one person sees as worthless and useless, another sees as valuable and useful. We have all heard stories where treasures have been discovered at yard sales or Goodwill stores. Someone buys a box of costume jewelry for a few dollars, only to find a genuine diamond brooch worth a few thousand in the box. Not long ago on the Antique Road Show, a painting bought in antique store for $700.00 turned out to be a Van Dyke valued at $600,000.00. We can hear the seller crying, “ if only I had known it ’ s value ” In 1 Peter 2:7 he writes, “ Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, the stone the builder rejected. . .” Peter is speaking here of Jesus and comparing the different responses to Him. To the religious leaders of the day He was “ rejected ” and worthless, but to many others, He was precious and valued. Nowhere is the expression “ one man ’ s trash is another man ’ s treasure ” so applicable than when it comes to Jesus. To those who believe, He is nothing more than a swear word, an object of ridicule, or simply irrelevant. What makes the difference? Peter says “ belief ” - “ to those who believe, He is precious. ” What do you believe about Jesus? There seems to be no middle ground. Either He is who He said He is, or He isn ’ t. C.S. Lewis has it right when he said of Jesus, “ He is either a Legend, a Liar, a Lunatic, or He is Lord. ”
We have been having a lot of fun playing cornhole this past month. We have been getting more people coming out to play with CanAm coming up. The chili cookoff was a huge success. Thank you to all that volunteered cooking and handing out the chili. We sold out with 150 tickets sold! See you all on the courts soon!

This has been a busy and exciting season for the Health & Fitness Committee. We accepted the challenge of raising funds and keeping up with the needs of our active community here at Outdoor Resorts. We added 3 new committee members!
Stephanie Knox Being a So Cal native and living at the beach, I have been an outdoors exercise enthusiast since youth. My happy place is mountain biking, strength training, kickboxing, yoga,
jumping rope, wakeboarding, snowboarding and now “ Pickleball", thanks to ORPS! Professionally, I was an Animal Keeper/Bird Show Presenter for the Los Angeles Zoo. After my son was born, I chose to be a stay at home mother and at age 40, I became a Certified Personal Trainer. I am currently a Student Pilot, and enjoy volunteering at Guide Dogs of the Desert, Palm Springs Animal Shelter, Desert Wildlife Center and California State Parks/Mount San Jacinto.
Dana Moore A resident of Yakima, Washington where I taught Kindergarten for 40 years. During my career, I enjoyed an active lifestyle; training for 1/2 and full marathons, sprint triathlons and had a dynamic gym membership. Since my retirement, I
continue to be busy with daily walks (usually with my dog), workouts in the gym, and playing both pickleball and golf. Consequently, ORPS is my happy place!
Greg Lum A resident of Tigard (a suburb of Portland, Oregon), I retired after a 40 year career in education: 10 years in the classroom and 30 years in the school library. Recently retired in 2022, I “ drank the ORPS kool - aid ” after visiting friends here last March, made an offer on the
second day, and was an official ORPS owner in April 2024. I am playing Pickleball here, trying to play a decent round of golf, and loving the sunshine. During the spring and summer, I am an avid gardener. I sell plants and flower bouquets at a Farmers Market booth every Saturday and work part - time at a garden center twice a week. My four adult kids say this helps relieve my plant addiction!

March ’ s spotlight is on Susan Solberg. Susan and her husband Jim are from Abbotsford, BC and have been married for 45 years. They have one daughter and two grown grandchildren.
