SHEERLINE REVEALS STUNNING INSTALLATION OF THE MONTH WINNER

A stunning transformation in the sought-after area of March, Cambridgeshire, has been revealed as the winning entry for Sheerline’s Installation of the Month competition for April. It showcases the collaborative efforts of installers Choice Windows and fabricators Direct Roofing Systems. Sheerline’s sleek aluminium profile was selected because it is in keeping with the traditional style of the area while providing the thoroughly modern benefits of aluminium. This includes Sheerline’s straight out-of-the-box thermal efficiency and high- performance U-values, super slim sightlines, and exceptional security. As part of the project, three Sheerline Prestige Bi- folds and a fantastic end gable were installed to flood the space with natural light. The homeowners opted for an increasingly popular colour combination of Agate Grey (RAL 7038) outside with Pure White (RAL 9010) inside. Being a south-facing property and having previously had issues with the curtains and furniture being bleached by the abundance of natural light, Choice Windows made two recommendations to the homeowner to help them actively manage their solar gains and provide protection against ultraviolet (UV) rays. The first suggestion was to install solar control glass, and the second was to add integral blinds. Choice Windows prides itself on providing a consultation- style service to help homeowners navigate the myriad of options when choosing new windows and doors.

Lee Kaminski, Choice Windows Owner, commented: “I specified Sheerline for this project because I like the beading system – you fit it and you don’t have to revisit it again, you don’t need to adjust anything. It’s just a really nice, neat system that feels good quality.” “Direct Roofing Systems are great – their delivery and service is absolutely fantastic, everything is really well packaged, and the delivery drivers are great too,” he added.

Jimmy Cardno, Direct Roofing Systems Managing Director, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have played a part in this stunning project. The Agate Grey on White colour scheme is absolutely beautiful, really sophisticated and enhances this home perfectly and the shaped frame adds that wow factor! We have a great relationship with Choice Windows and look forward to working with them on future projects.”

RETHINKING CNC AUTOMATION IN 2025: FROM CHALLENGE TO COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

In 2025, CNC automation is continuing to reshape the way manufacturers think about productivity, precision and long-term competitiveness. Yet despite clear momentum, the journey towards automation is rarely straightforward, particularly for businesses navigating rising costs, skills gaps and integration concerns. These are real and valid challenges. But they aren’t the full story. In fact, many of the perceived barriers to automation are being steadily lowered by advances in technology, smarter system design and more flexible approaches to investment and training. At elumatec, part of the Voilàp group, we’re seeing this first-hand. From profile machining to complete digital factory solutions, automation is no longer the preserve of large manufacturers with deep pockets. It’s becoming an essential, accessible tool for fabricators looking to work smarter, not harder. Understanding the investment equation The upfront cost of CNC automation — machines, software, training and infrastructure — is often the first sticking point. But context matters. When evaluated through the lens of increased throughput, reduced scrap, lower labour dependency and more consistent quality, the return on investment can be compelling.

More importantly, the value of automation isn’t just financial. It gives manufacturers greater control over their production environment, enables overnight and lights-out shifts, and allows for more predictable delivery timelines, all of which feed directly into customer satisfaction and long-term competitiveness. Skills shortages and smarter systems Another common concern is the availability of skilled labour to operate, program and maintain automated systems. This is a challenge felt across the manufacturing sector, particularly in regions where attracting and retaining technical talent is increasingly difficult. But CNC automation is also evolving to meet this challenge. Many of today’s systems are designed to reduce complexity, not add to it. Software- led interfaces, simplified programming, and the integration of AI into CAM workflows mean less experienced operators can take on tasks that would have previously required advanced knowledge. The aim isn’t to remove skilled roles, it’s to make better use of the teams manufacturers already have. At elumatec, we support customers with training and integration that empowers their staff, not replaces them. It’s about building confidence, growing capability and helping manufacturers future-proof their workforce alongside their systems. Making integration less intimidating It’s understandable that manufacturers worry about compatibility when looking to introduce automation into existing workflows. Legacy systems, bespoke processes and tight production schedules can all make integration feel like a risk.

But again, the landscape is shifting. Advances in IoT, cloud connectivity and hybrid systems are

workflow visibility and ultimately, business resilience. In sectors like façade manufacturing or bespoke aluminium systems, where precision and lead time are critical, this level of oversight is increasingly becoming non-negotiable. Moving at the right pace What’s clear is that CNC automation is not a single leap — it’s a series of steps. And not every business will take those steps in the same order, or at the same speed. Some start with standalone systems to relieve pressure on a specific part of their process. Others take a more holistic view and begin to digitally connect their full operation. What matters is having a clear sense of purpose, a plan for training and support, and a technology partner who understands the realities on the ground. Looking ahead Automation isn’t just about technology. It’s about enabling better decisions, reducing uncertainty and creating a foundation for future growth. As manufacturers navigate economic pressures, shifting demand and labour constraints, CNC automation can provide a sense of control in a rapidly changing environment. The conversations we’re having with customers today are less about “if” and more about “how” — how to integrate effectively, how to bring people on the journey, and how to ensure the long-term value is felt across the business. For those who see automation not just as a capital investment but as a strategic shift, the opportunities are real and increasingly within reach.

making it easier to build bridges between old and new. Machines can now communicate in real time, enabling predictive maintenance, performance tracking and more responsive scheduling. These aren’t abstract benefits

LOCAL BUSINESS ACHIEVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION

Local window company, The Window Hub, has been singled out as one of the UK’s top window installation companies, receiving personal recognition from the CEO of industry’s professional body. With a head office in Staple Hill in Bristol, The Window Hub is proud to display its professional accreditations, including its membership of FENSA, which guarantees homeowners that the windows and doors the company fits meet the latest standards and Building Regulations. Managing director and owner Danny Robb recently received a personal note from the chairman of the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), which owns FENSA, alerting him that his company is now in the top 20 of all FENSA-registered window installation businesses in the UK. “Given the market conditions we are facing, in a mature market, I am sure you and the team are really proud of your achievement,” GGF CEO John Agnew said. “Whatever your secret is tell nobody as they will all want to cash in on it!”

The locally focused business has also shortlisted four times in the popular trade awards – the NFAs – with four members of staff being singled out for their professionalism. Young person Brad Barber, business development manager Ozgar Dagtekin, office manager Adam Smith, and Danny Robb himself are all in the running for awards, which are hand-picked by their peers. Danny Robb launched the Window Hub during lockdown in 2020 because he wanted to create a business that was “built on quality rather than greed”. Today, The Window Hub has offices, showrooms and installation depots across the South West, selling the latest window and door designs, which offer the very best security and warmth. “The last five years have been an absolute whirlwind,” Danny said. “But the whole team here at The Window Hub are focused on providing homeowners the very best windows and doors, at a decent price, with the friendly service they deserve.

“I knew we have grown quickly, but to get this letter telling me that I am a top 20 business absolutely amazed me. The team here are delighted with the news.” Danny said Window Hub has very strict guidelines that its employees must follow to ensure the customers are always looked after. This is includes an ethical sales policy which, in addition to following legal obligations, includes a ‘canvassing etiquette’ which all salespeople must read, sign and stick to. “It really isn’t rocket science,” Danny said. “But we make sure our employees close gates behind them, and don’t walk on the lawn. And if they are asked not to return, they must inform their Team Leader immediately, so Head Office can make a record and send out a ‘no knocking sticker’ so all canvassers know never to return. “Our sales team also have specialist training on being aware of vulnerable homeowners, so that everyone can make an informed decision. Sales begin and end with treating customers properly.” The Window Hub also has a tree-planting programme as part of a comprehensive sustainability programme, and the company is heavily involved in local charities including youth sports teams and hospices.

This meteoric rise in fortune, despite being launched during a pandemic and facing tough economic conditions, also resulted in The Window Hub being shortlisted for a trade industry award in 2024. “I am chuffed to bits to be a top 20 installer,” Danny said. “But it takes second place to my Trustpilot score, which sits at five stars.” 90% of reviews for The Window Hub on Trustpilot are for five stars, with customers celebrating the company’s professionalism, friendliness, tidiness, and attention to detail. (The company doesn’t invite satisfied customers to leave a review, so all comments on that site are genuinely organic.) One of the latest reviews celebrated the company’s professionalism: “Mike and Tony previously fitted a new front door at my house and I was so pleased with the finished product and their expertise throughout the process that I requested them again when it came to having a window replaced. “They completed that job today and again I am very happy with the new window installation. They were very tidy and cleaned up after themselves before leaving. WINDOW WARE CELEBRATES TRIPLE NOMINATION AT THE NATIONAL FENESTRATION AWARDS Window Ware, a leading supplier of window and door hardware, is thrilled to announce its nomination in not one, but three categories at this year’s prestigious National Fenestration Awards (NFAs). These nominations, driven by the industry itself, underscore the dedication and excellence that define Window Ware. The company has been recognised in the following categories: Hardware Company of the Year; Window Component of the Year (Regal Hardware Monkey Tail & Pear Drop Handles); and Customer Service / Operations Person of the Year (Sam Richards, Window Ware Head of Customer Operations). “We are absolutely delighted and truly honoured to be recognised with these nominations,” commented Sam Nuckey, Managing Director at Window Ware. “To have our commitment to superior service and the quality of our Regal Hardware range acknowledged by our peers in the industry is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that our customers and partners have put us forward for these awards is the ultimate validation – an achievement that simply wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and passion of the entire Window Ware team.” Sam Richards, nominated for Customer Service / Operations Person of the Year, shared his surprise and gratitude: “This nomination has genuinely taken me by surprise. We strive to be on hand with expert support, consistently on time with dependable deliveries, and always on point with a comprehensive and quality product offering.
