Honouring David Watters and the Story Behind SupaLite When David Watters walked onto the stage at the National Fenestration Awards 2025 to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, the reaction in the room said everything. This was more than a trophy – it was recognition of over four decades spent building businesses, backing people and helping shape the modern fenestration industry. Today, David is best known as the driving force behind SupaLite, a respected name in solid roof systems. But his story started long before SupaLite existed – in small workshops, busy yards and busy factories, where he learned every inch of the trade from the ground up.
From Sheds and Timber Buildings to a Fabrication Powerhouse David’s career began in a timber and outdoor building business, designing and constructing garden buildings and similar products. It was hands- on work: cutting timber, assembling structures, loading vehicles, delivering to customers and dealing with whatever each day threw at him. Those early years taught him the basics that never leave you: • how to build something properly • how to look after customers • how to keep your word • and how hard you have to work when you run your own business
