A salute to Rohnert Park, the planned city with big plans

NORTH BAY DESTINATIONS | ROHNERT PARK

Park Scene These neighborhood greens put the ‘park’ into Rohnert Park!

In the course of their planning a brand-new city in Sonoma County, the mid-20th-century founders of Rohnert Park made one thing clear—they wanted plenty of neighborhood parks. And more than 60 years later, there’s no shortage of greens where kids can play, adults can exercise and neighborhoods and communities can gather to enjoy the outdoors. Here’s a look at a few bucolic places for a great day out. [Images by Duncan Garrett Photography]

Sunrise Park is a 9-acre parcel that’s home to the Rohnert Park Pickleball Club (and lighted courts)! Located at 5201 Synder Lane, the park is equipped with both a softball and all-weather soccer field. Interested in honing your tennis skills? Sunrise Park has a lighted tennis backboard. It also has picnic tables, barbecues and play equipment on site.

Honeybee Park Located at 1170 Golf Course Drive, Honeybee Park has the essentials—from night-lit basketball courts to tennis courts and play equipment for kiddos. But what sets this 10-acre park apart from the rest is the year- round swimming pool!

Twin Creeks Park is a sport- lover's dream complete with two soccer fields, a baseball field and two basketball courts. Take a break from running around and take a load off at the various covered picnic tables. This 6-acre park, 5330 Kerry Road, also has play equipment for your tots.

Benicia Park This 6-acre park has something for the whole family. Get cooking at the barbecue and host a picnic for your loved ones. If the little ones are feeling antsy, they can have a ball on the play structure. Benicia Park, 1471 Bernice Ave, also has a seasonal community swimming pool and a baseball field.
