The 80/20 Secret to Achieving Your Goals in the New Year SMALL SHIFTS, MAJOR GAINS
There are certain things we can do that are small but make a big difference. As we head into the new year and start planning our New Year’s resolutions, I can’t help but think about the 80/20 rule, also known as the Pareto principle. The idea behind this philosophy is that 80% of our results come from 20% of our actions. Incremental steps and small shifts make everything easier to manage and accomplish, including those resolutions. At Anthony’s Lawn Care, we have the honor and privilege of personally working with Perry Marshall, one of the world’s best business strategists and the No. 1 authority on 80/20 for entrepreneurs. As a business, we have been working to implement that idea into many aspects of what we do and our goals in the coming year. And, though I don’t have many on my list, I’m incorporating the principle into my own personal resolutions for 2025. Every year, I take some time to reflect and set clear goals for the year ahead, focusing on critical actions that will move the needle the most. When it comes to business, we’re often thinking three or four months ahead of schedule, so I’ve been developing our goals since

wait to finish the planting tasks in the spring, we’ll explain the process up front with clients before they even book the work. When someone signs up for a huge job with us, like a total landscaping renovation, the last thing they want is to not hear from us for weeks. We are still fine-tuning our follow-up system, so if you don’t hear anything from us within the next three to four weeks, please call us. We’re growing as a company, and there are a lot of moving parts that still require employees to wear several hats. Everyone pitches in here, so we may have any one employee working on estimates, fieldwork, and answering calls. We’re hoping that in the near future, we get large enough that our key people have more defined roles. As our follow-up process improves, it will open the door to adding more personnel. We’ve recently hired a chief technology officer who is an AI and software expert to help us develop better automation to improve what we do.
October or even earlier. This early preparation helps us make strategic decisions about equipment, hiring, and setting client expectations.
As we head into 2025, I’m incredibly grateful for another year in business and our wonderful clients. We look forward to being of service to you for many years to come. As for me, I’m focusing on small changes this year. My biggest resolution is to go to bed a little earlier every day. If you’re still working on your resolutions for this year, I encourage you to consider how small actions can lead to significant results. Whether it’s improving your home’s curb appeal with a landscaping project or simply going to bed a little earlier, the small, consistent steps truly add up.
One thing we’ve been working on as a big goal is improving our client communication processes. We’re developing a follow-up sequence that updates clients once they have booked a job with us and stay in touch throughout the process. That crystal clear communication is essential in setting the right expectations for clients, and it’s a pillar of the customer service we provide here.

Get Outside, Feel Fantastic!
HOW JANUARY LANDSCAPING SETS THE STAGE FOR SPRING Don’t Wait
for the Thaw
WINTER WONDERS FOR CHILDREN’S HEALTH
Though January brings a chill, it doesn’t mean you have to freeze all your landscaping or gardening projects. During this cooler time of year, you can focus on yard tasks like pruning trees, preparing the soil, mapping out new garden designs, and more. By starting the groundwork now, you can set your yard up for success come springtime. Here are three projects you can do right now in the garden.
Building a snowman outside in the cold air is much better than sitting in a warm room with a cellphone for maintaining a child’s physical and mental health in the wintertime. Although most people tend to stay indoors during winter, spending time outside on snowy days can give people of all ages a needed boost. Here are a few interesting facts that show how a winter wonderland can enhance our well-being. THE PERKS OF OUTDOOR PLAY Did you know you’re more likely to catch a winter cold if you stay indoors? Although we instinctively huddle in close quarters when temperatures drop, hiding inside makes us more susceptible to germs that thrive in stagnant air. Studies have shown that being cold may trigger our immune systems, which means playing outside in the fresh winter air is often better for a child’s body than snuggling up in a warm living room. Getting outside in winter also puts a child’s mind in motion. Although the sight of icicles and one’s breath in winter are old hat for adults, these seasonal events could inspire wonder and curiosity in young people, allowing them to learn new things about the world. Encouraging your child to design and build the ultimate snowman also stimulates their imaginations far more than watching TV indoors. Winter play also helps keep children’s senses sharp when inclement weather disrupts their usual routines like school and sports. THE DYNAMIC BENEFITS OF VITAMIN D Sunlight is one of nature’s greatest gifts to our health, as it provides us with vitamin D. Getting outside when the sun appears on a winter’s day can do wonders for our mood, as increasing our vitamin D levels reduces anxiety and stress. Instead of letting our kids hide in dark rooms on snow days, let them venture outside and receive one of Mother Nature’s easiest cures for the winter blues!
PRUNE TREES AND SHRUBS Many trees and shrubs go dormant in the winter, so it can be a perfect time to prune, shape, or thin them, as it will do less damage than in their prime growing season. As trees shed their leaves and branches in the cold months, it gives you a clearer picture of the plant’s overall health. Use this unobstructed view to help spot any dead, diseased, or crossed branches you need to trim. PLANT BED MAINTENANCE Though your flowerbeds may have lost their vibrancy, with blooms dying off in the cold, now is an excellent time to prepare the area for new growth. Clean up dead plants, trim decorative grasses, and remove debris like dead leaves and grass. The health of your soil is vital to a lush lawn and garden, so add a layer of mulch to help insulate the ground and protect plants from cold temperatures. By ensuring your flowerbeds are neat and ready in January, you will have less preparation work down the road. DRAFT YOUR DREAM YARD If you have been considering giving your front or back yard a makeover, winter is an ideal time to start planning. Consider who in your home will use these spaces most and what you want to do there. Are you trying to create a backyard barbeque paradise, an area to play outdoor games, or just a beautiful spot to entertain? Factor in how much yard work or maintenance you want to put into your design. This gives you plenty of time to budget for this project. Though you may have to layer up, January doesn’t mean you have to put your landscaping plans on ice. If you’re ready for a big landscaping project or want to redesign your yard, contact us at Anthony’s Lawn Care today.

BREATHE NEW LIFE INTO YOUR LAWN
THE BENEFITS OF PLUG AERATION
Your lawn works hard — it’s the site of family gatherings and kids playing, and it’s often the first thing people see at your home. A lawn should be enjoyed,
provides a path for water to reach your thirsty lawn, gives roots the room they need to grow, and improves the airflow in the soil. It’s also beneficial for overall lawn health.
WHY AERATE? Soil compaction doesn’t just affect lawn growth. It can also cause problems with water drainage, leading to puddles and ponds in the lower areas of your lawn. If your soil is too compacted, it could cost you, as roots are more susceptible to diseases when they are under stress and can’t get the right amount of water. Compaction decreases soil fertility, so your lawn may need more fertilizer, watering, and seeding than a healthy lawn. SHOULD I AERATE MY LAWN? Soil compaction is a fact of life, so we recommend that everyone have a plan to aerate their lawn. You should aim to do this at least once or twice a year during the growing seasons of early spring and early fall. Some signs you may need aeration are if your lawn feels spongy, the soil feels hard to the touch, the grass is thinning, or your lawn isn’t draining correctly. Aerating your lawn is a powerful method to boost its health and appearance. At Anthony’s Lawn Care, we have the equipment and expertise to do the job right and have your lawn looking its best. but all the foot traffic can lead to soil compaction,
making it difficult for your lawn to soak up
the water and nutrients it needs to remain healthy. Lawn plug aeration is a method that can help loosen the ground, increase air flow, and ensure your grass can flourish. Ready to dig in and learn more?
WHAT’S THE DIRT ON AERATION? A plug aerator is a tool that pulls out “plugs” of dirt from the ground to free up space for tight soil to breathe and spread out. The plugs it leaves behind are small, cylinder-shaped sections of dirt, grass, and roots that then work their way back into the soil from above. This form of aeration
