Located in Oyón, one of the historic cities of the D.O.Ca. La Rioja, El Coto de Rioja was founded in 1970. During these almost 50 years of history, El Coto has strived to create of one of the most recognized wine brands in Spain and around the world. El Coto is the largest owner of vineyards in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, with four distinct estates (and eight individual properties) sprawling throughout the three sub regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa. Each estate is suited to produce the best Rioja can offer. El Coto not only takes care of what goes in the bottle, but how it’s handled before and after it gets there. Typical aging rules for Rioja D.O.Ca. dictates that a Crianza must be oak aged for 12 month. El Coto takes it a step further with 12+ months in oak, and an additional six months in bottle before release. This helps ensure the best possible product travels from the winery to your table.

The Veneto region of northeastern Italy is acclaimed for the production of high-quality Prosecco. LaLuca embraces this tradition with a combination of quality and affordability, produced in the highly regarded sub-region of Treviso where many of the best values in Prosecco originate. LaLuca is sourced from some of the finest vines in Veneto's Treviso province in northeastern Italy. The Treviso province is known for its higher-quality Glera grapes, which are used to produce many of the premier Proseccos in Italy. The region features soils of alluvial origin, which include fine particles of silt and clay and larger components of sand and gravel. Grapes for LaLuca are harvested from hillside vineyards that are located 400 meters above sea level and benefit from southeastern exposures to maximize sunlight.

Grown in the Uco Valley of Argentina’s Mendoza winemaking region at the foot of the majestic, snow- covered Andes, Portillo brings a remarkable collection of wines grown at some of the highest elevations on the planet. The name is French for “Beautiful Song” and its unique recipe has remained unchanged since its creation over 50 years ago. Bauchant melds together a soft texture from the aged Cognac and the flavors of orange and honey to generate a flavor that starts and ends fruit forward. The cognac base is a combination of precious reserves of fine quality VS and VSOP Cognac; while the orange flavor profile, a unique creation to the category, uses both bitter and sweet oranges. In order to achieve the perfect orange blossom flavor profile, Bauchaunt utilizes 3 different orange varieties -Andalusian, Mandarin, and Tangerine. This combination creates a cohesive nose to palate profile, fresh and light and orange forward, with a slight hint of honey on the finish.

In Austin Hope’s younger days he was something of a troublemaker. And on those days when his schoolwork or attitude didn’t quite live up to the family’s expectations, he was sent to the vineyards for a hard day’s work meant to teach him a lesson. Little did the Hope’s know that this childhood punishment would be the beginning of a life-long passion and career. It was in those days spent in the vineyards, the Paso Robles sun beating down and his hands in the dirt, that Austin found inspiration for his life’s journey. Troublemaker is inspired by those early days of pushing boundaries and finding your path. Still stirring things up, we here at Troublemaker are all about challenging the status quo and embracing the journey of life. The way we see it, rules restrict our ability to create and innovate. Besides, pushing the boundaries is fun.

The Mandois’s vineyards date back to 1735 when the family decided to acquire vines in Champagne. Jean Mandois, while Frère Odoart was active, owned and worked a few parcels on the slopes of Epernay. The long family history revolutionized when Victor Mandois, Jean’s great-grandson, decided to vinify and commercialize the wines from Champagne in Epernay. The caves of Mandois are dug deeply into the “heart of Champagne,” the very unique atmosphere due to the incredible architecture with vaults made of meuliere stones where the liquers de dosage are secretly elaborated and the reserve wines are stored in oak casks to ensure continuity of style. The estate provides enough grapes to maintain 70% self-sufficiency for its wine production.

There is much to be said about the allure of “Estate” wines, but as the idiom goes, variety is the spice of life. At Martin Ray, we have little qualms about dealing from both sides of the deck if the result is the best possible wine we can produce. Our estate has twelve acres of varying clones of Pinot Noir vines, but true to our motley personalities, we would be remiss to not take advantage of the extraordinary wine-growing regions that surround every side of our home in the middle of the Russian River Valley.
