JULY 2025

www.franklinbuildingsupply.com | 208-514-2200 | 9222 W. Barnes Dr., Boise, ID 83709 Where Is My Focus?

Recently, I had the privilege of facilitating Leadership University (Lead U), a leadership development course created by Dr. Henry Cloud. In 2024, Franklin launched this interactive online program to help strengthen the skills of current managers and emerging leaders. We meet once a month to share ideas from our learning experience. I work with a fun group, including Randy Forgy, Chrissy Garcia, Kevin Montgomery, Jordan Paeth, Rachel Spurgeon, and Adam Vissotski. I enjoy learning with them and reminding myself of important principles for success. For example, we recently discussed the importance of Focus, defined by Lead U as: 1. Our ability to define and pay attention to what is most important 2. Shut out what will inevitably be a distraction 3. Constantly, consciously keep these elements in front of you. It will be the ultimate determiner of success. Without these abilities, we, our teams, and our company would drift, become easily distracted, lose speed, and eventually fail to move forward. Lead U encouraged us to list our three main areas of focus, or strategic drivers, and I’d like to share mine with the following picture:

the umbrella, then?” I’ll get to that. Don’t lose “focus.”

People are my first area of focus because we are the company’s best and most important asset. We ultimately make the decisions that determine how we tackle our

challenges. We owe it to ourselves to be surrounded by the very best people. So, we

start by looking at our team and ourselves: Who is our leader? How can I help them improve? Who are my coworkers? Whom can I learn more from? Whom can I help become better? Do I need more training? Do my coworkers need more training? We also owe it to ourselves and others to be honest in our self-reflection. Am I a good fit for this team? Would I be a better fit for Franklin on another team? Am I holding myself accountable to my team? Am I willing to hold my team accountable? Am I willing to say what needs to be said at the right time, to the person who needs to hear it? That takes courage and kindness. It is also crucial. We will never truly improve if we are not direct, candid, and, of course, always respectful. Next, to attain success, we must improve our processes. Continuous improvement and waste elimination make our job easier and make building easier for our customers! Ask yourself, “How can we make this better?” “How can we develop the best standard operating procedure for this task?” or “How can we improve the existing SOP?” Finally, we must measure our performance. As we enhance our teams and processes, profitability and key metrics will improve. So, let’s talk about that big umbrella of Safety. Everything we do every day falls under the protection of our intentional safety culture! If our people, our greatest resource, aren’t safe and healthy, they cannot make sharp, strategic decisions; improve processes; or attain new levels of profitability. Safety is all-encompassing. Safety is the protector, allowing us to focus on all our strategic drivers: People, Processes, and Profitability. I encourage you to think and write down your three strategic drivers. Where is your focus? As you do, double-check them against our 2026 vision. Are they in alignment? – Bryce Luker REGIONAL MANAGER

People, Processes, and Profitability are my three strategic drivers and how I strive to approach my work at Franklin. When I am inevitably working through a challenge, I first look at FBS’s greatest resource, our people. Now, you may be asking, “What’s the large-lettered “Safety” on

WOW From: Ian Beane, Fruitland To: Fruitland Door Shop, Office Production and Delivery One of our regular customers came by to let me know how much he enjoys the doors he buys from us. From order taking to the guys in production and all the way through to the delivery team, we knock it out of the park for him every time. HIGH FIVES!

SAFE From: Kalen Thompson, Jerome To: David Inocencio, Jerome

better, I mean like night and day difference. I felt like an inconvenience at BFS. Not the case at Franklin. Drew Baughman was very helpful, got me pricing, showed me the lumber, gave me his card, and told me to email him my list of materials, and he would build a quote for me.”

David has been an amazing help to me while I learn the ins and outs of the yard! He’s taught me a lot in the first week that I’ve been here! He explains everything well, and I’m able to know exactly what he’s talking about. He’s helped train me on how to properly and safely load/unload trucks and move material correctly. He taught me how to unload the rail cars safely. He’s been teaching me the paperwork side of things in BisTrack and through emails. He leads well and runs the yard in a very efficient way! He is an awesome guy to work with here!

Way to go, Drew!

STRIVE From: Danielle Sweet, AR Team To: Julie Bondi, Boise

I want to give a high five to Julie Bondi. A couple of months ago, I started auditing Boise Hunter Homes, and as a portal customer, they operate differently from a normal customer. I have worked very closely with Julie in the cleanup, and she has been amazing at helping me to reconcile, correct, get me in touch with the correct employee, and even teach me new things. We are now carrying some of the practices they use to our Pocatello store for some of our portal customers, and it’s been an absolute game-changer. Now, BHH is cleaned up, consistent, and looks fantastic! Thanks again, Julie, for all your help and patience throughout this process!

GUIDE From: Jessica Vineyard, Caldwell To: Kevin Kovachevich, Caldwell

Kevin (or Kovo as we call him!) is a new addition to the Caldwell team, transferring over from Team Boise about three weeks ago. He saw one of our newer load builders struggling with putting loads together and took it upon himself to give the new LB some guidance and tricks on load building, first by explaining the process and second by showing. Sharing what we’ve learned with each other can only make our team better, and we are lucky to have Kovo in Caldwell. THANK YOU, KOVO!

EASY From: Jordan Paeth, Corporate To: Drew Baughman, Boise

I received a text from a cash customer and wanted to share his wow experience with Drew Baughman at the front counter in Boise. It reads as follows: “I’m quoting a decorative fence for a friend ... stopped at both FBS and BFS (due diligence), and my experience at Franklin was MUCH

In the Spotlight

IN THE SPOTLIGHT KALE BLACK: TURNING CUSTOMER VISIONS INTO REALITY WITH CARE AND PRECISION

As an Installed Sales Coordinator and Designer, Kale has been a key part of our Twin Falls location. If you ask her what she does, she’ll tell you it’s all about helping customers design their dream homes. From choosing the perfect floors and tile to coordinating orders, invoicing, and crafting installed contracts for overhead door sales, Kale keeps things running smoothly with a smile. But what really stands out about her is her genuine love for the work and the people. For Kale, every interaction with our customers is a chance to help someone bring their vision to life. She brings both creativity and precision to every project. Whether she’s drawing up a plan or finalizing a contract, Kale’s attention to detail and dedication to customer care are second to none.

Outside of work, Kale is a wife, a mom to five kids, a grandmother to three grandkids, and an adventurer at heart (she and her husband once went skydiving for an anniversary!). When she’s not designing beautiful spaces, she’s out camping, fishing, hunting, or traveling with her family. That love for life outside of work is also why safety is a top priority for her. “I want to be as safe as possible so I can go home to my family and enjoy the things I love and help my coworkers do the same,” she says. Kale, we look forward to continuing to deliver the very best for our customers together! You’re a fantastic team member, and we are proud to have you.

At Franklin Building Supply, we value our team members! Our people are more than just employees: They’re experts, problem- solvers, and customer advocates who show up every day with commitment, passion, and pride in their work. What sets our team apart isn’t just their skill. It’s the way they care, serve our customers, and treat each other, and one person who embodies that spirit wholeheartedly is Kale Black.
