you just haven’t found the right one,” Erin said. Sunscreen powders, for example, are great for applying on your scalp where you part your hair.

You may be thinking, "What about getting my

summer tan?" The good news is that you will tan through sunscreen,

Erin said. “We never

promote tanning necessarily, but it’s better to [tan] with sunscreen versus burn

without sunscreen,” she added. Self-tanning drops and spray tans can also help you get that summer glow. 3. Keep an Eye on the Clock UV rays are a form of energy the sun produces that also give us vitamin D, which is essential. However, too much UV is never good. According to Erin, the sun is brighter throughout the summer months, and UV rays are typically the most intense between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., but cloud cover and weather conditions factor in. Stickers, bracelets and other products can help you figure out the range of a low 1 to an extreme 11 on the UV index.Erin uses is a sunscreen bottle with her three kids that will go from clear to bright purple in intense UV rays. 4. Sunburnt? Try This A sunburn happens when your skin becomes inflamed from too much sun exposure. The reason your skin peels off is because the skin gets swollen, and the epidermis (the outer layer of skin) separates from the lower layers. While aloe vera might feel nice, Erin said, it won’t repair the sunburnt area. Instead, opt for after-sun care that reduces inflammation. “I recommend using a little bit of cortisone cream that you can get over the counter at the drugstore, combined with cooling towels or ice packs,” Erin said. After working in dermatology for so long, Erin knows that prevention is the best medicine. She has “seen the future” in the sense that she has seen women with sun damage from ages 40-60 and beyond. “If you have interest in keeping your skin looking healthy, make sure you’re trying to prevent the damage from happening,” she implored.
