28. Seeking Counsel “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man” (Psa. 118:8). Christians often look to man for help and counsel and mar the noble sim plicity of their reliance upon their God. Christian, . . . do not alloy thy gold of faith with the dross of human confi dence . . . Covet not Jonah’s gourd, but rest in Jonah’s God. Let the sandy foundations of terrestrial trust be the choice of fools; but do thou, like one who foresees the storm, build for thyself an abiding place upon the Rock of Ages. ^-Charles Haddon Spurgeon. God’s Love “To know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God” (Eph. 3:19). O love of God most full, O love of God most free, Thou warm’st my heart, Thou fill’st my soul, With might Thou strengthenest me; Warm as.the glowing sun, So shines Thy love on me; It wraps me round with kindly care, It draws me unto Thee. No foe can cast me down, No fear can make me flee, No sorrow fill my life with ill; His “Market Purchase” “ Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s" (1 Cor. 6:20). . You are the market purchase of Jesus. He paid out for your soul, for your life, for the right to the possession and disposal of you and me, drop by drop of His own life’s blood. To buy us, He gave up the glories of heaven to live a child’s life, a boy’s life, a man’s life here on the earth, when He might have been reigning through those thirty-three years in glory with the,, Father.—J. Russell Howden. 31. The Perfect Book "The law of the Lord is perfect, con verting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure” (Psa. 19:7). The Bible is a Book of facts, as well authenticated as any heathen history; a Book of miracles, incontestably avouched;, a Book of prophecy, con firmed by past as well as present ful fillment; a Book of poetry, pure and natural and elevated, even to inspiration; a Book of morals, such as human wis dom never framed for the perfection of human happiness.—Wendell Phillips. 29. Thy life surroundeth me. The wildest sea is calm, The tempest brings no fear, The darkest night is full of light Because Thy love is near. /■ —Living Waters. 30.
