How Your Family Can Thrive With the Habits of Abundance
My family and I like to spend time in the outdoors, and our home state of Utah is the perfect place to support our adventures. We enjoy time at our cabin, where it’s not uncommon to see deer and elk right outside our front window. We also like to go fishing — my grandkids are still trying to outfish Grandpa, but so far, I’m holding strong on the title. And we like to hike. We’ve spent many unforgettable hours in national parks like Zion and Bryce Canyon. In any part of nature — especially the awe- inspiring parks — one thing becomes clear. Change is most often gradual. As you stand at the base of those sandstone and limestone monoliths, you see the effect of water, wind, and the earth’s upheaval carving, shaping, and sculpting the rock over countless generations. I think our lives are like that. The kind of change we seek doesn’t happen overnight. It is the result of earnest, consistent effort that becomes habit. These habits slowly smooth our rough edges and leave us more inspired — and inspiring — than when we began.

10 Relationship BREAKthroughs

As you look at your personal journey toward greater abundance, and the one you want to help take your family on, it might help to relax a little, take a breath, and realize it will not be a universal change in just a few weeks, or even months. And that is okay — that is as it should be. When you’re embarking on changing big things, you’re essentially setting out to transform the entire culture of your family. It can start as a ripple in a pond — drop that first stone and watch the effect emanate all the way to the shore. Everything you do, even the tiniest first actions, can have an impact on your family. It is okay to recognize that your family’s shift will likely be gradual. The goal is to go from learning the principles of 3 Dimensional Wealth to living them. And that requires replacing old ways of thinking and developing critical habits — what we at 3 Dimensional Wealth call the Habits of Abundance.

RELATIONSHIPS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
THE PEOPLE WHO ELEVATE OUR LIVES
It’s no secret that our relationships impact the quality of our life and our abundance. For
brother, Emron, is one of my best friends. We’ve built our careers together in our work at LASER Financial, helping clients prepare for a brighter financial future. Beyond that, we’ve also built our lives around each other. We’re so close that we live on the same street. Our kids’ lives are so intertwined, they might as well be siblings. I’m grateful to him for all that he’s meant to me. We’re also close to our sisters and their families, with countless family dinners, holidays, and Family Retreats with a Purpose in places like Hawaii and Wind Rivers keeping us connected. And then there’s the power of friendships. I’ve been lucky to keep some of my closest childhood friends in my life. From group dinners to getaways with our spouses, we’ve built a lifetime of memories together. Then there are relationships with people who aren’t necessarily as close, but who inspire us. We’re lucky to have a strong church community in our area, and I’m grateful for the way so many of those families have influenced my own family for the better. Building lasting connections is a critical part of the Foundational Dimension. Which relationships matter most to you? daughters are at the center of my universe. We love spending time together, whether it’s cheering the girls on at their games, going hiking and camping, or making memories on trips to Mexico, they mean everything to me. I’m also grateful for my relationship with my parents, Doug and Sharee. They’ve been intentional in everything they’ve done for my five siblings and me. Over the years, they’ve taught us values, helped us overcome challenges, and been the instigators of so much fun and so many incredible memories that have brought us all closer.
I’m also blessed to count my siblings among the relationships that have influenced my life. My

TAKE A BREAK WITH SUDOKU
PINK CADILLAC DINER — NATURAL BRIDGE, VIRGINIA Taking a step into this restaurant feels like stepping straight into the 1950s … in all the best ways possible. The diner’s bold, beautiful shades of bubblegum pink — including a vintage pink Cadillac parked in front — prompt nostalgia and delight. Accompanied with a classic burger and ice cream diner menu, this East Coast gem is a destination you won’t want to miss. CECCONI’S DUMBO — NEW YORK CITY There are plenty of gorgeous restaurants in the Big Apple, but you’ll always hear Cecconi’s Dumbo mentioned among the best. Located in Brooklyn Bridge Park, your table might have dramatic views of the bridge or a waterfront view of the Manhattan skyline. It’s the best possible pairing with their classic Italian menu, complete with handmade pasta and high-end ingredients from Italy. THE FRENCH LAUNDRY — YOUNTVILLE, CALIFORNIA If there’s a contest for the best food and views offered by a restaurant in America, this three-star Michelin restaurant just might place first. Run by Thomas Keller, its rustic, cottage-like setting in Napa Valley always turns heads with its surprisingly sophisticated design (as well as its exclusive tasting menus!). The restaurant’s gardens are beautifully lit and dotted with Japanese maple trees — a sight that will blow you away. Most people can have a good meal at home, so if you have the time and money, why not pay a little extra for a nice view? Go ahead and indulge. We won’t judge — we’ll even be a little jealous!

HAVE YOU USED THE $2 RULE?
A FUN WAY TO REINFORCE ACCOUNTABILITY
How much is living “above the line” in the zones of accountability and responsibility worth to you and your family? One company discovered it was worth about $250,000. They saw the cost of dealing “below the line” in the zones of blame, shame, and justification, when they implemented the $2 Rule, a concept recommended by the great systems engineer Dr. Edwards Deming to Marshall Thurber of the Thurber Institute. Thurber implemented the $2 Rule with a Fortune 500 company he was advising, strategically placing jars throughout the company’s offices for 90 days. Any time employees were dealing below the line, they had to put $2 in a jar. If they didn’t recognize it themselves, a coworker could ask, “Was that dealing below the line?” If the offender agreed, he or she would add $2 to the jar.
And you know what happened to the productivity of that company? It went through the roof — so much that everyone received a raise at the end of the year. We’ve used the same $2 Rule with our family while on our Family Retreats with a Purpose. (If you missed it, be sure to check out the June issue of the newsletter, where you can learn how to plan your own Family Retreats with a Purpose. Go to WealthIn3D.com. ) For example, say the Andrew family is on a trip, and we get ready to get on the boat for scuba diving. If we notice
and it wouldn’t have done any good to bring it,” we would say, “No, you needed to be responsible and get a new strap at the dive shop, and that’s $2 in the jar!” If she were to say, “You know me, I’m always forgetting. You have to remind me,” she’d be dealing in the zone of shame; she’d owe $2. Instead, she could deal above the line and say, “Oh, sorry I blew it. Why don’t you all get on the boat, and I’m going to pay the driver to take me back to the
dive shop. Tonight, banana splits are on me because you had to

CHANGING THE SCOPE OF EXERCISE LIVE LONGER AND STRONGER
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be challenging, but it’s an essential part of your Habits of Abundance! When you exercise, eat well, and take care of your mental health, you have more energy to give to yourself and others. Of course, you don’t want to overdo it on your workouts. If you’re approaching middle age or your golden years, consider these exercise options to keep your body strong and prevent age-related illnesses. WALKING OR JOGGING Taking a stroll around the neighborhood or a few laps around the park can help build stamina, strengthen lower body muscles, and help fight against bone diseases like osteoporosis. If you want to sweat it out some more, jogging might be a great alternative. But remember to be kind to your joints: Walk at a pace you’re comfortable with, wear supportive shoes,
take breaks as needed, and walk on soft surfaces, like tracks or grass.
GARDENING While gardening doesn’t seem as vigorous as other exercises, it is a hearty physical activity. Digging around in the dirt is actually great for your immune system, and it strengthens your arms, legs/knees, and balance. Mycobacterium vaccae, which is a bacteria commonly found in gardening soil, can alleviate symptoms of allergies, asthma, and even psoriasis. CYCLING Whether it be in a class or outdoors, cycling can be very beneficial for stiff or sore joints. You’re able to get your blood flowing and build muscles in the front and back of your legs as well as your hips. Your arms are also strengthened due to the resistance of balancing your arms and shoulders to steer.
YOGA Holding a series of poses can stretch and strengthen your muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It also helps lower heart rate and blood pressure and can even relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression. For older adults, a well-rounded workout that consists of endurance, strength, balance and flexibility can help in many ways. Some can even be fun!

CHOOSING JOY EVERY DAY 3 Ways to Foster a Positive Attitude
In today’s society, we are faced with tragic stories and upsetting information, no matter where we turn. This can quickly lead us to a negative mindset where we believe things can’t be fixed and will only get worse, so it’s important to establish a positive mindset now! Approaching life with gratitude and positivity is a critical Habit of Abundance. Though it might be easier to bury your head in the sand, fostering positivity in your life will provide you with many benefits.
day that we should be grateful for. Keep a gratitude
journal and write a few things you are thankful for each day. Over time, that thought process will seep into your daily life. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE. The people we associate with play a huge role in our mental well- being. As entrepreneur Drew Houston once said, “You become the average of the five people you hang out with [most].” So, make those five people positive, inspiring folks! Surround yourself with friends and mentors who encourage you, and you’ll maintain your positivity and charge forward toward your goals. FOCUS ON THE SILVER LINING. When something bad or unfortunate happens, we are quick to think about the negatives and how they will impact us in the future. Instead, we should be searching for a silver lining. You can find a positive in any situation, but you’ll have to put in the effort to flip your perspective. KEEP A GRATITUDE JOURNAL. When we think about gratitude and thankfulness, our minds usually think about Thanksgiving. But we don’t need to wait for a special day to show gratitude. Things happen to us every
chest. Then he said, ‘Let’s go for a ride.’ I would soon find out he was driving me to the Orem City Police Department to turn myself in." After confessing his shenanigans in an interrogation room, Doug’s father asked the police officer to explain what could have happened if the boys had caused an accident. Doug recalls hearing phrases like “involuntary manslaughter.” He says, “I rode home with my dad that night and thanked him for loving me enough to turn me in to the cops. I knew this would be a story I would tell my own children someday.” This is indeed one of the dozens of stories Doug has shared with his children and grandchildren. It’s been recorded and archived in the Andrew family’s Legacy Bank, among countless other tales the entire family has contributed from their own lives.

As a teenager, Doug worked at KFC, and one night, some of the cooks invited him to join them in going to a new overpass nearby to toss eggs on cars passing below. Doug knew better, but he wanted to look cool, so he went along. As he recalls, they didn’t hit any cars, but they got their kicks causing more than a few brake lights to go on. When he got home, his parents were waiting for him in the living room. “I had learned earlier in life that if I lied, I would get into deeper yogurt, so when they asked where I had been I blurted out, ‘Uh, I’ve been down on the new overpass throwing eggs at cars!’ My father put his arm around me and said, ‘Son, we thought we could trust you!’ That made me feel like a dagger had pierced my I REMEMBER WHEN A Method for Sharing Stories With Your Family

HOW TO KEEP YOUR RETIREMENT MONEY SAFE IUL’S SAFETY FROM THE STORM
SETTING BOUNDARIES FOR TEENS
Inflation is high, the highest it's been since the early 1980s. The Federal Reserve recently raised the rate another .75% to stave off a recession.
and during up years, your policy can grow tax-free.
This kind of safety is possible thanks to indexing, which allows your money to be LINKED TO the market, while not actually IN the market. So what do you do if you want to move money out of your 401(k)s and IRAs into the liquidity, safety, predictable rates of return, and tax advantages of IUL LASER Funds? This is where you want to work with experienced IUL specialists, the experts who know that to be in accordance with tax laws, you can’t put that money in all at once. In fact, it takes about five years to satisfy what is called the Technical and Miscellaneous Revenue Act of 1988 (TAMRA). Experienced IUL specialists can help you decide how much of your money to reposition, and how to protect your money as much as possible while making that transition. And as the recent market turbulence shows, it’s important to take steps now to create a stronger Financial Dimension tomorrow.
As children grow older, some tend to engage in more risky behaviors. These risks feel exciting but ultimately put them “below the line” in the zones of shame, blame, and justification, making them miserable. No parent or grandparent wants that! It’s your responsibility to teach your family the value of “dealing above the line” in the zones of accountability and responsibility. To do that, establish firm and fair boundaries using the tips below. CREATING BOUNDARIES THAT REFLECT YOUR VALUES You cannot simply say the rules — your actions must reinforce them if you want them to be followed. They must also reflect the positive values that mean the most to you, as they will influence how your family sees you. The clearer your values are, the easier it is to express and communicate them to older kids, and the more likely they are to follow along with the boundaries that respect those values.
To say folks are worried about where the market
might head — and what that volatility might do to their traditional retirement vehicles like IRAs and 401(k)s — is an understatement. Warren Buffett has two rules of investing. Rule #1: Don’t lose money. Rule #2? Don’t forget Rule #1. So how do you avoid losing the value of your traditional accounts in a possible downturn? If you haven’t already, you can do what thousands of our clients have done: protect yourself from market volatility by moving your serious cash out of traditional accounts and into a properly structured, maximum-funded Indexed Universal Life policy (what we call an IUL LASER Fund). With an IUL LASER Fund, you can benefit from liquidity, predictable rates of return, and an income-tax-free transfer of wealth when you pass away. What’s more, you can also enjoy safety — your policy is protected by a guaranteed 0% floor during market down-years,
Here is a list of core family values to consider:
• Positive relationships — whether that be with family members, friends, coworkers, or even strangers • Priorities — define what matters to your family first • Honesty — creating a judgment-free space to be open and speak freely • Responsibility — taking accountability for one’s mistakes • Respect — learning how to communicate boundaries effectively BE SUPPORTIVE, NOT ENABLING Supporting someone is helping them do something they might not be able to do themselves in the right conditions, whereas enabling is stepping in and mitigating consequences that would otherwise be a result of a negative choice. Enabling is an undesirable behavior that can occur when parents or grandparents give in to complaints or demands to avoid conflict. Instead of avoiding possible conflict, it’s best to support your family while they navigate through your rules. Allow them to have questions or make mistakes. That way you can provide a framework where they have the ability to act and make decisions on their own. Setting boundaries will help you abolish entitlement and empower the teenagers you love to cultivate all 3 Dimensions of Authentic Wealth.
