cultivator wheel and prayed to God that He would make it possible for me to go to the Boy Scout camp that year. In the 30 years since then I have never forgotten the experience. On the Saturday before the Mon­ day when the camp was to start, the scoutmaster suddenly drove into our yard. I was in the barn at the time and my brother came rushing out to say, “ Go up to the house. Father wants to see you.” All I could think of was that I was going to get scolded for something I had done wrong. I went up to the house with a certain amount of fear­ fulness. I hadn’t seen the Scoutmas­ ter drive into the yard. My father was smiling when I came in and said that the Scout troop had a special fund and that it was going to use the money to send two

— Mary Daniel boys to camp. I had been selected as one of the boys to go. I was so happy I could hardly speak. At the camp during the next week, in the midst of the fun and excite­ ment of camp life, I remembered my experience in the cornfield. I was outside the camp on a hike at the time, walking through tall grass that reminded me of the rows of com between which I had prayed a few weeks before. I dropped to my knees and thanked God for making it pos­ sible for me to do what seemed im­ possible. In the 30 years since then, I have frequently been in most difficult cir­ cumstances.
