The choice of the Canteen’s final beneficiaries was in the orga- nization’s best traditions. (The total below later was revised to $137,884.72, with in-kind contributions estimated to at least equal it.) Telegraph | April 14, 1946 A retrospective survey of the cash received by the Canteen during the period of its operation, as evidenced by the bank deposits of the four different treasurers who served during the 51 months, shows a total of $136,085.34. The first deposit of $56.76 was made Dec. 27, 1941; during 1942 the deposits were $10,429.83; in 1943 they jumped to $23,317.45; in 1944 they were $42,931.20; in 1945, the banner year, the total was $51,565.55; and for the three months of 1946 the sum depos- ited was $7,784.55.
