3. Promised Land – God gave this promise to Abraham in Genesis 13:14-
17. God began fulfilling this promise at Joshua 5:13 and the promise
was fulfilled by Judges 2:10.
4. Unfaithfulness – God gave this prophecy to Moses in Deuteronomy
31:16. The start of this prophecy begins at Judges 2:1 and goes on
through the United Kingdom Period beginning at 1 Samuel chapters 8
through 11 (1 Sam.12:5-17 provides a summary of this time period),
and on through the entire Divided Kingdom Period as well.
5. Exile – God gave this prophecy to Moses in Deuteronomy 4:26-28 and
Deuteronomy 28:36-42. The prophecy began to be fulfilled in 2 Kings
15:29 with the deportation of the 10 northern tribes of Israel. The first
part of this prophecy was completed by the time of 2 Kings 17:6. An
explanation of why they were exiled begins with 2 Kings 17:7-23 and
is stated again in 2 Kings 18:9-12. This prophecy regarding the Exile
then finds its complete fulfillment with Judah and the Fall of
Jerusalem with 2 Kings 25:21; Jeremiah 52:27; and 2 Chronicles
36:21.
6. Restoration – God gave this prophecy to Moses in Deuteronomy 4:29-
31 and 30:1-10. The prophecy begins with 2 Chronicles 36:22 and
Ezra 1:1 and is fulfilled by the time of Nehemiah 13:31 and the record
of 1 Chronicles 9:24.
7. Messiah – God gave this promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 as the
blessing of all peoples. This promise was fulfilled in the four Gospel
accounts with the coming of Jesus Christ.
The 12 Time Periods of the Bible Story The 7 promises and prophecies were fulfilled through 12 distinct time periods.
The periods usually began and ended at the fulfillment of each of the promises
and prophecies, with one prophecy spanning 3 of the time periods.
The first10 time periods provide an outline for the Old Testament, and the
remaining two time periods apply to the New Testament.
