The Five Tools of Personal Bible Study

Still, no one is yet saved! With the fourth pair of “essential elements” , we go

back to God once again.

He responds to the truly penitent believer with our eighth point , that being

the NEW BIRTH . In John 3:3-7 Jesus said you must be born again. I Peter 1:3

tells us that He has given us the new birth. God gives His Holy Spirit to the

truly penitent believer, and they then partake of the gift of everlasting life!

With the new birth, and the reception of the Holy Spirit, this person now comes

to the ninth point , by which it is possible for him to live a NEW LIFE in

Christ. Galatians 2:20 and Galatians 5:16-25 serve well to support this

element. We use the color green to relate the two matters of new birth and new

life.

Completing the “essential elements” is the tenth point , when the believer

comes to the end of his life and he is received by God into His KINGDOM . This

is the subject of all Revelation 21 and 22. We use the color gold and see II

Pet.1:11 and 3:13. It’s the home of righteousness! We have just come full circle.

While reading through all the New Testament, carefully look for every word,

verse, or passage that speaks to any one or more of these 10 Essential

Elements. You will find them everywhere! Make notes and keep them, as each

new discovery that you are able to identify with any of these 10 Essential

Elements becomes a place from which you can teach about that precious

spiritual truth to your hearers.

As an exercise, try reading carefully through John 3:1-21 and see if you can

find words or verses that are instructing us in at least 8 of these Essential

Elements.

A second exercise would be to see how far into the book of Romans you must

read before you have found references to all 10 of the Essential Elements. As a

clue, you can find all 10 before you even complete chapter 3.
