L’agence locale de conservation craint également que le plan provincial de fusion n’interfère ou n’entre en conflit avec les programmes existants de dons fonciers et de fiducies caritatives mis en place par la CNS et d’autres autorités de conservation, qui consistent pour les propriétaires fon- ciers à transférer leurs titres fonciers à leur autorité locale de conservation sous forme de dons ou de cadeaux pour la protection future de la faune et des habitats des zones humides. L’emplacement du canton le long de la rivière des Outaouais fait également relever une partie de son territoire de la compétence du Conseil de planification de la régulation de la rivière des Outaouais et des groupes Ottawa Riverkeeper. En vertu du projet de loi 68, la CNS, ainsi que les quatre offices de protection de la
nature représentant la région de Cataraqui, la vallée Rideau, la vallée Mississippi et la région de la rivière Raisin, deviendront l’Office régional de protection de la nature du Saint-Laurent. La nouvelle méga région comprendra la ville de Clarence-Rockland, le canton d’Alfred-Plantagenet, le canton de Cham- plain, le canton de Russell, la municipalité de Casselman et la municipalité de La Nation dans Prescott et Russell, ainsi que les municipalités de North Grenville et South Dundas et les cantons de North Dundas, North Stormont, South Stormont, South Glengarry et North Glengarry de la région de Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry. Résolution de la CNS Les principaux points de la résolution de la CNS à l’appui de la demande adressée aux municipalités comprennent l’opposition à la fusion des groupes de conservation locaux en plusieurs mégarégions, mais soutiennent également les efforts conjoints de la province, des groupes de conser- vation locaux et des municipalités pour moderniser et améliorer le fonctionnement des 36 offices de protection de la nature existants en Ontario. Lors de sa session extraordinaire du 16 décembre, le Conseil a approuvé à l’unanimité une proposition de résolution de la Conservation de Nation Sud (CNS) s’opposant au projet de loi 68 qui permet au gouvernement provincial de regrouper les 36 autorités locales de conservation de l’Ontario en sept groupes régionaux géants sous la direction d’un organisme provincial de surveillance. Le projet de loi 68, intitulé Plan to Protect Ontario Act (loi sur le plan de pro- tection de l’Ontario), a été approuvé par l’Assemblée législative provinciale à la fin du mois de novembre dernier, mais la SNC continue de faire campagne pour obtenir le soutien de la population contre le projet de fusion des offices locaux de protection de la nature du gouvernement provincial. « La CNS demande toujours votre soutien », a déclaré Michel Potvin, administrateur en chef du canton d’Alfred-Plantagenet, au conseil lors de la réunion du 16 décembre. « Il est encore temps de faire entendre nos préoccupations. » Tous les membres du conseil muni- cipal ont exprimé leur inquiétude quant à l’impact que la proposition de fusion

Throughout 2025, firefighters responded to a total of 298 calls for service, reflecting the diverse range of emergencies handled by the department. These included 45 fire- related incidents, 42 medical assistance calls, 93 motor vehicle accidents, 65 alarm responses, and 53 other emergency situations. “(The firefighters’) dedication to serving our community goes far beyond emergency response. Our crews commit many hours
to ongoing training, certifications, and skill development to ensure they are prepared to respond safely and professionally,” wrote the /BUJPO'JSF%FQBSUNFOUPOUIFJS'BDFCPPL post. The department also expressed appre- ciation to residents for their cooperation and engagement in fire prevention efforts. Officials emphasized that fire safety is a shared responsibility, and that community awareness, particularly the sharing of fire

Welcome to a joint update from Winchester District Memorial Hospital , the WDMH Auxiliary , Dundas Manor Long-Term Care Home and the WDMH Foundation . It’s our annual opportunity to share some of the highlights from the past year and to thank our local communities for your incredible support. We also want to thank our healthcare teams for their commitment to the very best care. Building Health, Building Home Let’s Celebrate This Season
Winchester District Memorial Hospital has so much to celebrate this season! Over the past year, WDMH has introduced new Rheumatology, Dermatology, and Pulmonary Function Testing clinics, to provide more specialized care to our patients. We also launched the innovative Molli Seed Breast Cancer Localization Program; a less-invasive, more comfortable way to help care for patients with breast cancer. Another major achievement: WDMH successfully completed its first breast biopsy procedure. Patients can now receive everything from initial screening and follow up to biopsy and surgery, all under one roof, close to home. Like a Warm Hug As winter approaches, we are reminded of the warm and reassuring support that Winchester District Memorial Hospital receives from the WDMH Auxiliary. Thanks to the tireless efforts of its members, the WDMH Auxiliary was able to provide the following gifts to the hospital: Two ultrasound probes $19,717.76 One vending machine with debit $20,250.00 Hot/Cold table for Food Services $17,000.00 Three beds for the medical surgical unit $33,935.00 Moving forward, the Foundation will take care of administrative and financial responsibilities for the Auxiliary, so our dedicated volunteers can focus on what they love most, hosting activities and events that support our hospital. There’s Snow Place Like Home Garland, twinkle lights, and cozy throws are just some things that are adding to the coziness of Dundas Manor this winter. As residents settle in, the construction team presses on and remains on schedule; residents can look forward to moving into their new home in September 2026. The new home is now over 70% complete, marking a major milestone in the redevelopment journey. To date an impressive $15 million has been raised thanks to the generosity of our community and supporters. The Foundation remains steadfast in its efforts to reach the ultimate fundraising goal of $18 million.

Cold Days, Warm Hearts In 2020, Dale and Lois Keys made a heart-warming donation of one million dollars to help purchase a new CT scanner for WDMH. This state-of-the-art machine is now installed and provides faster, more efficient scans, uses lower radiation doses, and delivers higher-quality images. WDMH performs more than 9,000 CT scans each year, making this an essential part of health care close to home. Thanks to the unwavering support of our community, the WDMH Foundation has also funded the equipment on the right to enhance patient care at Winchester District Memorial Hospital.

On Saturday, December 10, Casselman followed up with a 4–3 overtime win against the Ottawa West Golden Knights. During the first period, the Golden Knights marked the first goal, but Casselman mat- ched it with a goal of their own by Hayward. The team interchanged scoring during the second period with the Golden Knights scoring their second goal before Lafrance, with the help of Beks and Tristan Simoneau, scored for the Vikings. Both teams scored their third goals, with the Golden Knights first before Lafrance, with the help of Bessette and Kaleb Fogarty, once again tied the score. After a scoreless third period, Tristan Witmer, with the help of Webb and Bodhi Matthew, sealed the Viking’s victory 1:22 into over- time. Myles Boudreau was solid in the net, turning aside 29 of 32 shots. On Friday, January 2, the Vikings capped the stretch with a commanding 10–4 road win over the Winchester Hawks during their first game of the year. During the first period, the Hawks scored the only two goals in the
period. The Casselman exploded for seven second-period goals, while the Hawks only scored one goal. Beks and McCarthy each scored twice throughout the game, while Lafrance, Edouard Ranger, Thomas Ranger, Cloutier, and Hayward also found the back of the net. Casselman finished the night with 47 shots on goal, and Viking’s Boudreau
The Casselman Vikings delivered a strong offensive showing during their most recent three-game stretch, ear- ning two wins in dramatic fashion and posting a dominant road victory after opening the sequence with a convincing home performance. The Vikings began the run on Thursday, December 18, with an 8–1 victory over the Embrun Panthers. Casselman controlled the game from start to finish, outshooting Embrun 40–20 and scoring in all three periods. Kaleb Fogarty, with the help of Alexis Lafrance, opened the scoring on the power play during the first period, while Téo Webb, Simon Toupin, with the help of Marc-Olivier McCarthy and Thomas Ranger, Skyler Beks, with the help of Tristan Simoneau and Alexis Lafrance, and Edouard Ranger, with the help of Thomas Ranger and McCarty for the fifth goal for the team and Webb and Cédric Ouimet for the sixth goal, scored during the second period. One person has died following a two- vehicle collision at the intersection of North Russell Road and Route 200 in Russell Township. Members of the Russell County Detach- ment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the collision on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m. The incident involved an SUV and a sedan. A 70-year-old woman was transported to hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. Police confirmed that no other injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
