Brant Houston Co-Founder, Global Investigative Journalism Network
Brant Houston is the Knight Chair in Investigative Reporting at the University of Illinois. For more than a decade, he was executive director of Investigative Reporters and Editors – where he built its membership to more than 4,000 – and before that worked as an award-winning investigative reporter and database editor at U.S. newspapers. He is a co-founder of the Global Investigative Journalism Network and the Investigative News Network and advises nonprofits newsrooms in the U.S. and internationally. He is co-author of the Investigative Reporter’s Handbook and author of Computer-Assisted Reporting: A Practical Guide. He has served as a judge for editorial awards for the Society of Publishers in Asia contest, the Selden Ring Award, the Philip Meyer Award Journalism Award, and the Forum for African Investigative Reporting.

Jeanne Bourgault
President & CEO Internews
As President and CEO of Internews, Jeanne Bourgault leads the organization’s strategic management and its programs in more than 100 countries around the world. Under her leadership, Internews has helped foster independent media sectors in countries such as Jordan and South Sudan, and provided lifesaving information to people during crises in Ukraine, Myanmar, and Afghanistan. At the onset of the COVID- 19 pandemic, Jeanne led Internews’ Rapid Response Fund to help local media partners access emergency funding and continue operating in dire economic conditions. During her tenure, Internews has led the growing sector of humanitarian information, expanded into US programs, developed strategies to address digital information technology, and centered the information needs of underserved communities throughout its programs. Bourgault has overseen the development of innovative programs, including the Earth Journalism Network, United for News, FilmAid and the Listening Post Collective. Prior to Internews, Bourgault worked internationally in countries undergoing dramatic shifts in media and political landscapes. She joined Internews in 2001 as Vice President for Programs after six years with the US Agency for International Development, including three years at the US Embassy in Moscow, and as a strategic advisor for media and community development programs in post-war Kosovo, Serbia, and Montenegro. Bourgault has consulted on international program design and evaluation for the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Research Triangle Institute, and the United Nations Centre for Human Rights, among others. An expert on issues of media for democracy, mis- and disinformation, women’s media leadership, information technology, and participatory community development, Bourgault has spoken at venues such as the Skoll World Forum, the Global Philanthropy Forum, and the World Economic Forum in Davos. She serves on the World Economic Forum’s Global Coalition for Digital Safety, specifically on Workstream 4: Media Information Literacy for Tackling Disinformation.

Jim Clancy Broadcast Journalist, Consultant and Trainer
For over 40 years, Jim Clancy has been a journalist covering the U.S. and the world. His reporting on conflicts in Europe, the Middle East and Africa has earned him numerous recognitions for excellence. From 1982 to 1996, Clancy was a CNN international correspondent in the Beirut, Frankfurt, Rome and London bureaus. During this time, he won the George Polk Award for his reporting on the genocide in Rwanda, the DuPont-Columbia Award for coverage of the war in Bosnia, an Emmy Award for reporting on the famine and international intervention in Somalia and the A.H. Boerma Award for his coverage of global food and hunger issues. He has interviewed the “Who’s Who” of our times. Clancy is perhaps best know for the time he spent anchoring CNN newscasts such as “Your World Today” and “The Brief.” His years spent reporting included covering the fall of the Berlin Wall; the Falkland/Malvinas war in Argentina and Chile. Through all of these years Clancy’s interest in Africa continued to develop. Upon returning to the U.S., Jim was instrumental in founding the program “Inside Africa” which focused beyond the headlines of famines or conflicts and instead marked innovation and progress on the continent. It remains CNN’s longest running feature news program. Global issues of rights and freedom drive his long term involvement in the fight against Human Trafficking and modern slavery. He remains focused on journalism in our world today, the safety of journalists in conflict zones and his passion for photography.

Petra Abbam Responsible AI, BBC
Petra Abbam is Principal Responsible AI Manager at the BBC where she is looking to build a culture of the responsible use of AI across the organisation. In her time at the BBC she has also been a chief of staff, project manager, content producer and distributor and publisher. Petra has also worked across many industries and sectors including publishing, finance, medicine and sports, with roles in software design, project and product management, research, editorial and sales. Petra’s work centres around values of inclusivity, equity and fairness and she is particularly concerned with how these can thrive in a digital society. Petra is a 2018 Clore Leadership Fellow as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Nic Newman
Senior Research Fellow Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism Oxford University
Nic Newman is a Senior Research Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University where he is lead author of the annual Digital News Report, the world’s largest on-going study of consumer behaviour around news. He authors an influential annual report on media and technology trends and has published recent research on trust, paying for news, the changing nature of social media, and the impact of Artificial Intelligence. Before the Reuters Institute, Nic spent 20 years as a journalist mainly at the BBC. He was a a founding member of the BBC News Website in 1997 where he led international news coverage for 5 years before heading up technology and product development for BBC News for almost a decade.

Cordel Green
Executive Director Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica
Cordel Green is an Attorney-at-Law, a former Assistant Attorney-General of Jamaica and a former broadcaster. He is the Executive Director of the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica, which regulates electronic media. Mr Green has been appointed to the Jamaica National Commission for UNESCO and represents Jamaica on the Intergovernmental Council for the UNESCO Information For All Programme (IFAP). He is also Vice-Chairman of IFAP and Chairman of the IFAP Working Group on Information Accessibility. His other affiliations include being Chairman of the Regulatory & Technical Committee for Digital Television Switch-Over in Jamaica; Member of the Advisory Council, Carnegie AI and Equality Initiative (AIEI), New York; Member of the Law Committee for the IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Consideration in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems; Vice-Representative of the International Centre for Information Ethics (ICIE); Member of the International Institute of Communications (IIC); Honorary Member of the Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council (MMTC), Washington DC; Member of the Advisory Board, Society for Scientific Advancement (SoSA); Member of the IEEE P7011 Working Group on Trustworthiness in News; and Member of the IEEE P2863 Working Group on Recommended Practice for Organisational Governance of AI. He has a rounded lifestyle which includes being MC at select events such as 'Rebel Salute' and performing comedic routines at the 'Powerful Women and Men Perform for Charity Concert' for which he is planning committee chairman. One interesting fact is that whilst a student at UWI and a MC, he gave the moniker "Doctor" to Dancehall Superstar Beenie Man, who has since come to be known as "The Doctor" or "Doctor Beenie Man". Mr Green holds Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) and Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) degrees from the University of the West Indies, a Master of Laws Degree with distinction, from the University of Sheffield in England, a Master of Business Administration degree from the Mona School of Business, and is an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education Programme and a Chevening Scholar. He is married to the Honourable Mrs. Justice Marcia Dunbar Green, Judge of the Court of Appeal. They have a daughter, Pia-Milan, who is a law student.

Alexandre Le Voci Sayad
Journalist / Author
Alexandre Le Voci Sayad is a journalist, educator and writer. Master in Artificial Intelligence and Ethics from PUC-SP and specialist in digital business from the University of California - Berkeley. He is currently a PhD student in lifelong learning and AI policies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB - Spain). Sayad director of ZeitGeist, an innovation hub in education, culture and media that develops global projects for companies, governments and the educational sector. He also works as a consultant in media education for the UNESCO headquarters in Paris (France) and and Montevideo (Uruguai). Internationally he is a member of the DCN Global team. He is also member of the board of IC4MIL (international Council for Media Literacy) and and of the scientific council of the academic journal Comunicar (Universidad de Huelva, Spain). On television, he hosts the program "Idade Mídia", on Canal Futura, in its fifth season. He is also a columnist for Education Magazine. He is the author and author of more than twenty books in the areas of education, technology and communication, as well as a young adult novel. The most recent of these (2023) is "Artificial Intelligence and Critical Thinking". He began his career as a reporter in the education field, including a project at the BBC; His work in the mainstream media included O Estado de S. Paulo, where he was an education columnist, Folha de S. Paulo, as a contributor, and BandNews FM, as a presenter. He moved to the education sector when he co-founded and became director of Cidade Escola Aprendiz, an award-winning project. He has worked in the area of education and media for 23 years as a researcher and consultant on policies to combat misinformation and strength media education.

Dr. Nikos S. Panagiotou[1] is Associate Professor, School of Journalism and Mass Media Communication, Aristotle University. He has been a visiting Professor at APU University, Japan at Deutsche Welle. He has been awarded the following scholarships: Chevening Scholar of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office UK, RCAP Scholar from APU University Japan, Scholar to Beijing Foreign Studies University, Scholar of the State of Luxembourg. He has an extensive research work which has been funded from Google (DNI Initiative fund). He is the initiator and organizer of Thessaloniki International Media Summer Academy. Nazima Raghubir is a journalist and media professional who has spent all of her adult life in local and regional media. Nazima started her career in the media profession at Guyana televisions ‘Prime News’ at the age of 17. During her career she has undertaken the roles of Reporter, Anchor and Managing and Acting Editor. Nazima is currently a Senior Reporter and Anchor with Prime News.
Since 2015 Nazima has taken on the roles of Communications and Public Relations Consultant and Project Management Consultant. She has led several major projects including the development of public awareness publications for the Parliament of Guyana. From 2015 to 2017 Nazima was Editor of ‘Insight’, a current affairs print and online publication magazine. She was elected as President of the Caribbean's 2nd oldest media body, the Guyana Press Association (GPA) in 2018 and is the first woman elected to head this 74 year old association. As President of the GPA, she is responsible for ensuring the freedom of information and freedom of press are upheld through legislative process and has been working to ensure the rights of the media/press are recognised and respected.
Dionne Jackson-Miller Talkshow Host, Attorney-at-Law
Past President, Press Association of Jamaica, a broadcast journalist and attorney-at-law, Dionne hosts one of the leading daily current affairs programmes on Jamaican radio, "Beyond The Headlines" on RJR 94 FM, a well-regarded weekly current affairs television programme "All Angles" on TVJ, and is also a practising attorney-at-law.
She tutors at the University of the West Indies in Constitutional Law, and also writes on issues relating to media law and human rights law.

Mike Reilley
Data & Digital Journalism Professor University of Illinios
Mike has been a lecturer in data and digital journalism at the University of Illinois Chicago for the past eight years and is a digital tools trainer in the Google News Initiative training program. He also owns Penny Press Digital, LLC, a digital consulting company. Mike has trained more than 14,000 journalists, students and teachers in digital tools since 2016, speaking at conferences, journalism schools and in newsrooms in 42 states. He has done more than 425 trainings in the Google program and dozens more for other clients such as Gannett. In 2015 and 2016, Mike was the director of digital production and professor of practice at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. He and his digital production students rebuilt, updated and produced multimedia, mobile stories and data visualizations for Cronkite News, the news division of Arizona PBS. His group also built the Carnegie-Knight News21 Weed Rush and Nicaragua: Channeling the Future sites. He taught several classes over 6 1/2 years as a faculty member at DePaul University, including Reporting for Converged Newsrooms, Online Journalism I, Online Journalism II, Mobile Journalism, News Editing and Multiplatform News Editing. In winter 2011, he launched The Red Line Project with students in his Online Journalism II class. The site won many national and regional awards — including honors from ONA and Editor & Publisher. His UIC students continue to publish to it today. He also served as founder and faculty adviser the SPJ/ONA DePaul student organization. The group was named the 2013 and 2011 SPJ National Campus Chapter of the Year, Region 5 Campus Chapter of the Year three times and was DePaul University’s 2012 Outstanding Student Organization. Reilley was named DePaul’s Outstanding Faculty Adviser in 2012 and won SPJ’s David Eshelman Award for Outstanding Campus Adviser in 2013. Mike is a former reporter and copy editor at the Los Angeles Times and was one of the founding editors of ChicagoTribune.com. He’s a former digital news editor at WashingtonPost.com and helped run the 2000 Summer Olympics copy desk for AOL. Mike also founded the AI tools site, The Journalist’s Toolbox. He also blogged about the Chicago Bears for two seasons on the NFL Blog Blitz site. Mike has more than 2,500 bylined stories as a professional reporter, covering teams such as the Los Angeles Rams, Anaheim Angels, Chicago Cubs, college sports and recruiting. He has written for MediaShift’s EducationShift page, and had an article published in 2003 in the Columbia Journalism Review about incorporating computer-assisted reporting and research cross-curriculum. Mike has a master’s degree in journalism/newspaper-media management from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. He graduated at the top of his class at Medill and received the Harrington Award, the school’s highest academic honor. He taught full-time at Medill from 1997 to 2000. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he was editor of his college newspaper, The Daily Nebraskan.

Anthony Greene is a senior executive with 24 years’ experience in broadcast and print media. He is currently the General Manager at Starcom Network Inc., the leading broadcasting company in Barbados with four radio stations. Prior to his appointment as General Manager, he held the post of Programming/Content Manager from 2016 to 2021. Anthony also serves as a director on the boards of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union, Innogen Technologies Inc. and Pearl's Dance Academy. Before returning to the media industry in 2016, Anthony was the Marketing Manager at Unicomer Barbados Limited, trading as Courts, a Furniture and Appliance company with retail outlets throughout the Caribbean. Anthony has a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communication with First Class Honours from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus and a Master of Science in Project Management & Evaluation with the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. One capstone early in his tenure as General Manager is the raising of the profile of Starcom Network as a high performing business within the One Caribbean Media group portfolio, though faced with the Covid-19 pandemic and other external challenges. During this period, the company has also further strengthened its market share of radio listenership in Barbados. Anthony is particularly passionate about media as a powerful agent of transformation. Neil Sahota ( 萨 冠军 ) is an IBM Master Inventor, United Nations (UN) Artificial Intelligence (AI) Advisor, author of the best-seller Own the AI Revolution and sought-after speaker. With 20+ years of business experience, Neil works to inspire clients and business partners to foster innovation and develop next generation products/solutions powered by AI. Neil’s work experience spans multiple industries including legal services, healthcare, life sciences, retail, travel and transportation, energy and utilities, automotive, telecommunications, media/communication, and government. Former President of the National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Foundation, and Scripps Director since 2019, Mr. Alexander is the former executive vice president of television at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and former president of the National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Foundation (NABLF). Alexander is a seasoned media executive with more than 40 years of experience in broadcasting, communications and government relations. Prior to his work at the NAB, Alexander served as vice president and general manager at local television stations in Baltimore and Philadelphia. He has a strong track record of working with broadcast operators across the industry on legislative and regulatory affairs and has advanced the business of broadcasting through education, professional development and diversity initiatives, community service and journalism’s First Amendment protections. He earned a bachelor’s degree in speech and journalism from Texas State University. A native of Austin, Texas, Marcellus holds a BS degree in speech and journalism from Texas State University. Ms. Andrea M. Davis is the founder and producer of International Reggae Day TM (IRD), an annual 24-hour global celebration of Jamaican music culture. Over the past 35 years, Ms. Davis has contributed to Jamaica's cultural and creative industries in various areas including artiste management, talent bookings, tour management, music-film-tv-literary-photography-event production, brand consultancy, marketing & PR, publishing, intellectual property rights and policy development. As a consultant, Ms. Davis has made invaluable contributions to the foundation and development of policy and legislative frameworks in the areas of cultural and creative industries, copyright and artificial intelligence. Ms. Davis is the co-author of the UNESCO Caribbean AI PolicyRoadmap (2024). She has also authored several other pivotal documents including the ‘Jamaican Entertainment Policy' (Min of Tourism); and the ‘Five YearStrategic Plan for Jamaican Music and Entertainment’(Jampro). Ms. Davis serves as a member of Jamaica’s Copyright Tribunal and authored the 'Jamaican Copyright Term Extension White Paper' (JAMMS) which contributed to the 2015 protection term amendment to 100 years. Ms. Davis has contributed to creative industries and creative economy publications from UNESCO (EU), UCLA (US) and ITAU Cultural (Brazil) and has made numerous presentations on Jamaica’s music and culture at events from Brazil to China, Tanzania to Jamaica, in tandem with the UNDP South by South Unit and the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). Dr. Paul G. C. Hector is the Advisor for Communication and Information in UNESCO’s Regional Office for the Caribbean in Kingston UNESCO. He joined UNESCO through its competitive Young Professionals Program in 2000. Over the course of his UNESCO career, he has supported project initiatives and policy actions in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East that through research, the design and implementation of policies, strategies and action plans have promoted access to information and knowledge for development. These initiatives have sought to address information and knowledge divides linked to issues such as gender, language, literacy, island/rural living and disability. Paul holds multiple master and doctoral degrees and is an alumnus of the J. William Fulbright Fellowship and US State Department International Visitor Leadership Programmes. He has taught in a European business school and his research interests include knowledge-based development, design thinking, entrepreneurship, innovation, and digital transformation. Beyond his professional pursuits, Paul is also a coach, mentor, and author. He has mentored students at the University of Washington and the University of the West Indies, and also supports work colleagues in finding balance. In his recently published book, “Yes you can: 5 steps to becoming the CEO of your life”, Paul shares his learnings and experiences to help readers find success on their own terms.

Milton Walker

Milton has been a Journalist for the past 30-years. A graduate of University of the West Indies, he first worked with the now defunct state-owned Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation as a Producer before moving into the News division. At JBC, he started the weekly financial programme, the Financial Week, on Fridays, which is now in its thirtieth year. He has worked in television at CVM Television with responsibility of its local news and current affairs programmes. Under his leadership, CVM News was a pioneer in news coverage with groundbreaking coverage of crime, the activities of the police, inner city, rural issues, politics, finance and the environment. Milton has received awards from the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) and the Caribbean Broadcasting Union. He has covered stories in most Caribbean territories, Caricom Summits, the Caribbean Development Bank AGM and the Volcanic eruption in Montserrat. Milton has also covered the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kampala, Uganda. He was the first Caribbean journalist to arrive in Haiti after the 7.0 earthquake devastated that country’s capital in January 2010. In March 2008 he began at the then RJR Group as News Director. On October 1, 2022, Milton was named Deputy General Manager for Broadcast and Cable News, Sports and Current Affairs for the RJRGLEANER Group. He is also a Press Freedom advocate and the current President of the Press Association of Jamaica. He is a One World Broadcasting Trust, and CNN Fellow.

Kiran Maharaj President, Media Institute of the Caribbean
Co-Founder and current President of Media Institute of the Caribbean, Kiran is also a Director of the Trinidad & Tobago Publishers and Broadcasters Association (TTPBA) heading its training projects. Kiran was a lead researcher and project manager for UNESCO’s global pilot study on Media Viability Indicators and on the study on Disinformation in the Caribbean. She currently sits as an Advisor on the Centre for Media Integrity of the Americas
She is also Managing Director of Caribbean Lifestyle Communications Media Network which comprises of Music Radio 97, Radio 90.5 and Heartbeat Radio for Women, Caribbean Lifestyle Productions, and VA Films.
Kiran began her career in media as a Freelance Journalist with some of the local newspapers and magazines and her passion for Journalism eventually led her to become a Freelance Correspondent for CNN World Report . She has also worked in the world of film as a Line Producer and has experience with film production and script writing. With over 25 years of experience in Media and Entertainment, Kiran is also the Founder of the world's first radio station for women, Heartbeat Radio 104.1FM (Trinidad and Tobago) In 2019 the US State Department and US Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago recognised her philanthropic and professional work with the Woman of Courage Award.
Wesley Gibbings Founder, ACM and Vice-President, MIC
Wesley Gibbings is an award-winning Trinidadian journalist, media trainer and press freedom campaigner. He is founding President of the Association of Caribbean MediaWorkers (ACM), former President of the Media Institute of the Caribbean (MIC), Member of the Steering Committee of the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD), and is a current Council Member of the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX).
His work on Caribbean media development and journalism has been published in several books, instruction manuals and journals. In 2017, he was presented with the Percy Qoboza International Journalist Award by the US National Association of Black Journalists for his work in the area of press freedom. Gibbings is also a published poet with five collections to his name.

Canute James Deputy Executive Director, IFEX
Dr. James is Adjunct Senior Lecturer and former Director of the Caribbean School of Media and Communication (Carimac) of the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies.
His training of journalists is mainly in newswriting, broadcast journalism and business journalism. Before joining the University, Dr. James was a reporter, presenter and producer with BBC Radio in London, and a reporter with the Financial Times of London. His journalism started with the Gleaner newspaper in Jamaica, and he was later editor of the Jamaica Daily News. Among his awards is the Maria Moors Cabot Prize for Journalism from the Graduate School of Journalism of Columbia University in New York.
Harvey Panka President, ACM
Harvey Milton Panka is a Surinamese senior journalist born, raised and living in Paramaribo. He has 28 years of experience in the field of broadcast journalism. Currently working at ATV-Suriname as a TV show host, news editor, program developer and producer.
Born on the 23th of September 1972, he started his a career as a 2 nd year law student from the Anton de Kom University of Suriname at the Suriname Television Foundation (STVS) in Paramaribo. After a year he became aware that Journalism was his true passion, so he quitted his study at the university to pursue a career in Journalism. He has done a lot of training and internships in his field, in Suriname, the Caribbean region, The Netherlands and China. He also holds a Bachelor of Art degree in Journalism and Communication. Harvey Panka is a lecturer at the Academy of Higher Arts and Culture Education (AHKCO) and President of the Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM) and the past General Secretary of ACM. Also he served on the board of the Association of Surinamese Journalists(ASJ), as Treasurer. He also serves on the Church council of the Trinitatis Lutheran Church as secretary. Harvey Panka is married and has 4 children.

Peter Richards

Peter Richards is a St. Lucian-born Caribbean journalist. He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the City University in London, graduating from the latter with a Master’s Degree in Communication Policy Studies. He has considerable experience in regional communications. The former Bureau Chief of the Caribbean News Agency (CANA), he is now the Editor of the Barbados-based Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC). He has been on assignments throughout out the Caribbean, North and Latin America, Europe, the Pacific and Africa. The senior journalist in the electronic and print media is also a former News Editor of the now defunct German government–owned Radio Antilles in Montserrat. He is a founding member of the Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM) and has served on the executive of media associations in St. Lucia, Dominica and Trinidad and Tobago. Mr. Richards has received numerous awards including “Best Feature Writer” and Most Outstanding Journalist” by the Caribbean Broadcasting Union/ Caribbean Publishing and Broadcasting Association. His writings and commentaries appear in a number of regional and international publications, the latest being “Digital Surveillance and Surveillance Capitalism in the Caribbean, published by the Canada-based World Association for Christian Communication (WACC). He is co-author of the book “Life in the Caribbean Community” and together with Dr. Lera Rhodes pf the University of Georgia, published an academic paper entitled “Threats to Press Freedom in Established Democracies”. The former part-time lecturer at the Open Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mr. Richards, has worked as a communications consultant for a number of government and private sector enterprises in the Caribbean, including the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).

Claire Grant

Dr. Claire Grant is a media professional with more than three decades of industry experience across Print, Television, Radio and Over the Top Television (OTT), News reporting, copy editing, product editing, product development, sub-editing, marketing and sales management, general management, project management and strategic leadership are among her skills sets. On October 1, 2022, Dr. Grant was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Broadcast Services and Content (Group) at the RJRGLEANER Communications Group. A switch to Marketing and Sales in broadcast media for Dr. Grant took place after a successful 16-year career in journalism at the Gleaner Company Limited which started on September 03, 1990. She worked as a reporter on the Daily Gleaner desk, Sunday Gleaner desk and she wrote for all sections and publications at the newspaper group. On her return from Master level studies at City University in England in 1994 she was appointed Editor of the Overseas Publications and her final position was Editor of the Star a post she held for 10 years (1997– 2006) before moving to broadcast media. On September 1, 2012, she was appointed General Manager of TVJ and TVJ-SN by RJR Communications Group After three years at the helm of TVJ, the cable brands Jamaica News Network (JNN) and Reggae Entertainment Television (RETV) were added to Dr. Grant’s portfolio creating a Television Division within the group. In 2019 the Radio Division was added to her portfolio with the brands, in what is now the RJRGLEANER Communications Group. In 2021 a restructured Multi-Media Jamaica Limited was also added to her management As Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Broadcast Services and Content (Group), Dr. Grant is spearheading the transition of the television transmission operations from analogue to digital using the ATSC 3.0 standard which has been mandated by the Jamaican Government. Television Jamaica switched on its first ATSC 3.0 transmitter in January 2022, making Jamaica the third world to switch on ATSC 3.0 transmitters and the first to move from analogue to ATSC 3.0. Dr. Grant’s tertiary education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the West Indies (UWI) (1990); a Masters of Arts degree in International Journalism from the City University in London; (1994); a Masters in Business Administration degree with a Marketing Specialization with distinction, from the Mona School of Business (MSB)(UWI) (2003); and a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM), Faculty of Social Sciences programme. Her DBA thesis, An Exploration of the Association Between Cultural Context Congruency and Advertising Effectiveness for Television Audiences in a Small Open Emerging Economy, is directly related to critical business indicators in the media industry. Dr. Grant is currently the President of the regional media group of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union and is an executive member of the Media Association of Jamaica.

Lucio Mesquita
Journalist & Media Executive
Lucio Mesquita is a journalist, media executive and now consultant with over 30 years of experience in the field. He studied mass communications in his native Brazil, where he also started his journalistic career before joining the BBC’s Brazilian Service in 1991. At the BBC, he worked as producer and presenter of programmes for the Brazilian Service before moving to the BBC World Service’s main newsroom, followed by a move to become a producer and then editor at Newshour, the BBC’s flagship international news and current affairs programme. He returned to the Brazilian Service as its director, tasked with its modernisation and transformation into a multimedia operation. He then became the BBC’s Head of the Americas region, including English for North America, Spanish and the then Caribbean Service. Following a restructuring, he added Europe to his brief, including language services such as Russian, Ukrainian and Turkish. In 2007, Lucio became the director of the BBC’s regional centre in Bristol responsible for all the regional and local content on radio, tv and digital for the West of England. He completed his BBC career as the director of BBC Monitoring, the BBC’s unit responsible for monitoring and analysing open media content from around the world. He left the BBC in 2016 to become the Managing Director of Guardian Limited in Trinidad & Tobago, where he instigated a transformation plan to improve the digital presence of the T&T Guardian newspaper, together with CNC3 TV and seven radio stations, leading to the creation of a multimedia, integrated newsroom bringing together reporters and editors of all platforms under one editorial structure. Lucio returned to the UK in 2018 to focus on media consultancy work at a global level, helping media and news organisations meet the challenges of the digital era, working on editorial and operational projects in the Americas, Africa, Europe and the Middle East, especially through Innovation Media, a specialist consultancy business. On a voluntary basis, he also works with organisations in the Bristol area involved with youth development, including mentoring for young people interested in media.
