Kiran Maharaj President, Media Institute of the Caribbean

Co-Founder and current President of Media Institute of the Caribbean, Kiran is also a Director of the Trinidad & Tobago Publishers and Broadcasters Association (TTPBA) heading its training projects. Kiran was a lead researcher and project manager for UNESCO’s global pilot study on Media Viability Indicators and on the study on Disinformation in the Caribbean. She currently sits as an Advisor on the Centre for Media Integrity of the Americas

She is also Managing Director of Caribbean Lifestyle Communications Media Network which comprises of Music Radio 97, Radio 90.5 and Heartbeat Radio for Women, Caribbean Lifestyle Productions, and VA Films.

Kiran began her career in media as a Freelance Journalist with some of the local newspapers and magazines and her passion for Journalism eventually led her to become a Freelance Correspondent for CNN World Report . She has also worked in the world of film as a Line Producer and has experience with film production and script writing. With over 25 years of experience in Media and Entertainment, Kiran is also the Founder of the world's first radio station for women, Heartbeat Radio 104.1FM (Trinidad and Tobago) In 2019 the US State Department and US Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago recognised her philanthropic and professional work with the Woman of Courage Award.

Wesley Gibbings Founder, ACM and Vice-President, MIC

Wesley Gibbings is an award-winning Trinidadian journalist, media trainer and press freedom campaigner. He is founding President of the Association of Caribbean MediaWorkers (ACM), former President of the Media Institute of the Caribbean (MIC), Member of the Steering Committee of the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD), and is a current Council Member of the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX).

His work on Caribbean media development and journalism has been published in several books, instruction manuals and journals. In 2017, he was presented with the Percy Qoboza International Journalist Award by the US National Association of Black Journalists for his work in the area of press freedom. Gibbings is also a published poet with five collections to his name.
