Peter Richards
Editor Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC)
Peter Richards is a St. Lucian-born Caribbean journalist. He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the City University in London, graduating from the latter with a Master’s Degree in Communication Policy Studies. He has considerable experience in regional communications. The former Bureau Chief of the Caribbean News Agency (CANA), he is now the Editor of the Barbados-based Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC). He has been on assignments throughout out the Caribbean, North and Latin America, Europe, the Pacific and Africa. The senior journalist in the electronic and print media is also a former News Editor of the now defunct German government–owned Radio Antilles in Montserrat. He is a founding member of the Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM) and has served on the executive of media associations in St. Lucia, Dominica and Trinidad and Tobago. Mr. Richards has received numerous awards including “Best Feature Writer” and Most Outstanding Journalist” by the Caribbean Broadcasting Union/ Caribbean Publishing and Broadcasting Association. His writings and commentaries appear in a number of regional and international publications, the latest being “Digital Surveillance and Surveillance Capitalism in the Caribbean, published by the Canada-based World Association for Christian Communication (WACC). He is co-author of the book “Life in the Caribbean Community” and together with Dr. Lera Rhodes pf the University of Georgia, published an academic paper entitled “Threats to Press Freedom in Established Democracies”. The former part-time lecturer at the Open Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mr. Richards, has worked as a communications consultant for a number of government and private sector enterprises in the Caribbean, including the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).
