Dr. Claire Grant is a media professional with more than three decades of industry experience across Print, Television, Radio and Over the Top Television (OTT), News reporting, copy editing, product editing, product development, sub-editing, marketing and sales management, general management, project management and strategic leadership are among her skills sets. On October 1, 2022, Dr. Grant was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Broadcast Services and Content (Group) at the RJRGLEANER Communications Group. A switch to Marketing and Sales in broadcast media for Dr. Grant took place after a successful 16-year career in journalism at the Gleaner Company Limited which started on September 03, 1990. She worked as a reporter on the Daily Gleaner desk, Sunday Gleaner desk and she wrote for all sections and publications at the newspaper group. On her return from Master level studies at City University in England in 1994 she was appointed Editor of the Overseas Publications and her final position was Editor of the Star a post she held for 10 years (1997– 2006) before moving to broadcast media. On September 1, 2012, she was appointed General Manager of TVJ and TVJ-SN by RJR Communications Group After three years at the helm of TVJ, the cable brands Jamaica News Network (JNN) and Reggae Entertainment Television (RETV) were added to Dr. Grant’s portfolio creating a Television Division within the group. In 2019 the Radio Division was added to her portfolio with the brands, in what is now the RJRGLEANER Communications Group. In 2021 a restructured Multi-Media Jamaica Limited was also added to her management As Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Broadcast Services and Content (Group), Dr. Grant is spearheading the transition of the television transmission operations from analogue to digital using the ATSC 3.0 standard which has been mandated by the Jamaican Government. Television Jamaica switched on its first ATSC 3.0 transmitter in January 2022, making Jamaica the third world to switch on ATSC 3.0 transmitters and the first to move from analogue to ATSC 3.0. Dr. Grant’s tertiary education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the West Indies (UWI) (1990); a Masters of Arts degree in International Journalism from the City University in London; (1994); a Masters in Business Administration degree with a Marketing Specialization with distinction, from the Mona School of Business (MSB)(UWI) (2003); and a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM), Faculty of Social Sciences programme. Her DBA thesis, An Exploration of the Association Between Cultural Context Congruency and Advertising Effectiveness for Television Audiences in a Small Open Emerging Economy, is directly related to critical business indicators in the media industry. Dr. Grant is currently the President of the regional media group of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union and is an executive member of the Media Association of Jamaica.
