NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A DROID R2-D2 & C-3PO “When I first painted this piece, I painted a Jawa sandcrawler in the background, but felt that it was lacking something. So I changed it to the escape pod with R2-D2 and C-3PO’s tracks leading from the pod. This helps to lead the viewer’s eye around the canvas and build some narrative within the image.”

“All of the pieces in this collection are painted on fine-grain Italian canvas. This has an extremely fine surface, allowing me to add extra fine details. The paints I have used are Winsor & Newton artisan oil paints, which have been my paints of choice for several years. For this series of work my style has evolved and I find myself painting using thicker layers, especially when painting helmets and battle armour as I feel that this style gives a more rugged, battleworn look to the figures.” We enjoyed hearing from Nigel first-hand when he joined us at Castle HQ to talk about this collection.
