Steve Winterburn
Steve Winterburn’s ability to render the most detailed animalistic sculptures from molten bronze is thanks to the eye he has developed for his subjects through years of observation, and relentless experimentation with his process and materials.
Combining an innate understanding of engineering with his extensive travels and a dogged determination to unlock the closely-guarded secrets of foundrymen, Steve continues to enthral his collectors with a sculptural series that would grace any space. View the full collection here.
SPIRIT OF THE SEAS
RESILIENCE
INTENSITY
“This piece was inspired by my daughter, who spent many years riding horses. Living close to the sea, we often went down to the beach to ride. The sea was often very rough, and you could see the ‘white horses’ breaking on the waves. I have tried to capture the power of both the sea and the horse in this sculpture.”
“With its light build and high- speed agility, the cheetah is the most elegant and the fastest of the big cats. However, it is also the most endangered, at constant threat from loss of habitat, loss of prey, poaching and illegal wildlife trafficking.”
“I travelled to India with Care for the Wild International, for whom I was a trustee. We were met by Fateh Singh Rathore, one of world’s leading tiger conservationists. He travelled with us around the National Parks in India, where we spent many weeks tracking tigers. It was such an honour to meet him and listen to him talk so passionately about his work, and I have so many memories of this trip that I will never forget.”
KING OF THE PLAINS
“The lion is the largest cat of the African big cats, magnificent with its prominent mane acting as a crown. It is a symbol of power and courage. I worked closely with Project Life Lion for many years, which is a successful vaccination programme, designed to stop the spread of diseases from wild dogs. Whilst working with them I went on many field trips in Kenya, and saw lions in their natural habitat.”
