ABOUT THE DISNEY DESK
Created between 1939 and 1940, this original background artist’s desk is an exceptionally rare example of Disney animation history. Designed by the architect Kem Weber, it captures the Golden Age of Disney. Background artists added colour and dimension to the work of the storyboarders and animators. Here, the enchanted forests, grand palaces and moonlit skies that added magic to the final scenes were painted by hand. The desk’s rich history can be seen in the rare details, which include a drawer containing an original ceramic paintbrush holder and art supplies such as crayons, pastels and metal clips. If you look closely, you can even see the paint splatters!
