Twitty Nursery has proudly served Texarkana since 1925. Founded by R.S. Twitty, the nursery was purchased in 1948 by Aubrey and Katherine Harper, grandparents of Kathie Eaton. Their daughter, Jean Crain, and her husband, Bill, joined the business in 1955, gaining hands-on experience in its thriving retail yard, landscape services, and farm division. In 1969, the Crains became partners, ensuring the nursery’s continued growth. By 1996, Kathie and Mike Eaton became third-generation owners, modernizing and expanding while keeping the community at the heart of the business. Now, the legacy continues with Josh Eaton and his wife, Marisol, emerging as the next generation of owners. Their dedication to Twitty Nursery ensures that it remains a local and loved nursery in Texarkana. Operating from its original location at 4815 West 7th Street, Twitty Nursery spans eight acres with three interlinking divisions—a full-service retail yard, landscaping and design, and a farm. It offers the widest selection of plants in the region, and provides expert guidance on plant care, insect control, and soil improvement. For nearly a century, Twitty Nursery has been rooted in tradition while growing toward the future.

Texarkana’s first library was established in the late 1800s, serving members of the Young Women’s Christian Association. In November 1925, a public meeting led to the creation of the Texarkana Public Library Association, and by December, the city’s first public library opened at the corner of State Line Avenue and 7th Street. Initially sustained through memberships, donations, and support from the Community Chest, the library operated under this model until 1951. As Texarkana grew, so did the need for a larger facility. In 1950, Texarkana, Texas, donated land in James Bowie City Park, and Texas residents approved an $80,000 bond to fund construction. In 1951, Arkansas passed legislation permitting tax dollars to support the library, and a one-mill tax was approved. A red brick Georgian-style building opened in January 1952, and by 1969, increased city funding eliminated membership fees, making the library fully accessible to all residents. Expansion continued with a new facility, completed in 1980 with support from an Economic Development Administration Grant. A significant renovation in 2006, funded by a 2002 Texarkana, Texas, bond election, modernized the space. For over a century, the library has remained a cornerstone of the community, continuously evolving to meet the needs of its patrons.
