acations can do wonders for the mind and body. They give you time to unwind and invest in yourself, whether you take a few days, a week, or an entire summer. Last month, I spent a lively week in San Diego. While part of the trip was dedicated to a President’s Club event, I took some time to unwind, relax, and invest in myself, and I snuck in a little sightseeing, as well. As part of the sightseeing, I visited a number of different neighborhoods around the city, exploring and learning what makes them unique. At one point, I took a spur-of- the-moment trip to Escondido, a city about 45 minutes north of San Diego. There, I had the chance to meet with a client who lives in the area, and we got to spend some time together, chat, and have a great time. I also spent time in La Jolla, another neighborhood about 10 minutes north of San Diego. It’s one of my favorite spots in Southern California, as it’s one of the most beautiful areas I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. I have to admit, if I had an unlimited budget, I would build my dream home there. One quality that makes San Diego so enjoyable is the weather. No matter where you go along the coast — whether the Pacific or Atlantic — San Diego is unmatched for its consistently sunny and pleasant weather. I have seen the occasional cloudy day while in San Diego, but they never stick around for long. The food in San Diego is always a treat, as well. Whether you love surf, turf, or you’re vegetarian, you are guaranteed to find a way to indulge your taste buds. This trip, however, I had an amazing meal at the

President’s Club awards dinner. I dined on filet mignon, and let me tell you, I love a good steak. It was nothing short of incredible. Food and sightseeing aside, I value the chance to unplug and relax. That’s what a true vacation should be, is it not? I’m already looking forward to my next trip to San Diego, which happens to be this month! I’m going back with two of my nieces. We went down to San Diego last year and had a blast. I can’t wait to do it again. We’ll be on the beach, and I’ll be watching them surf. I can’t imagine anything better than being right on the water, basking in the warm sun — but I think I’ll leave the surfing to my nieces. I don’t quite have the nerve to get on a board, and I’m certainly not prepared to catch any waves. Aside from San Diego, I do have a few other destinations in my sights. I’d love to visit Fiji — I’ve heard nothing but great things — but next year, Europe is my journey of choice. Have you planned your next vacation? When was the last time you took some time to invest in yourself? It just might be time to start contemplating your next getaway. Ann Marie
