A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9

Welcome back to a new half term, it has been lovely hearing from our students about their time over half term and I know that they have been excited to share their stories with their peers. Next week PE clubs and activities will resume, with trials for our cross country team taking place after school on Monday. This team will take part in the Richmond Schools Cross Country event on Friday 22 November in Bushy Park. Year 9 pupils will need to be able to run 3.5km. As we move towards the darker months please discuss with your child if they are attending after school clubs and ensure they are making their way home, on these darker afternoons, safely. Pupils in Year 9 and 10 have been invited to apply for the opportunity to take part in a free Art History course across the next two terms. Taking place during term time on Sundays at The Courtauld Institute, Somerset House, pupils will learn about art through history, as well as new skills in a dynamic and exciting learning environment. Successful completion will result in the achievement of a Higher Project Qualification or a Foundation Project Qualification with Pearson Edexcel (equivalent to half a GCSE). Please see poster on page 4 of the newsletter for more information and links. Please can I remind parents that students should not be wearing any jewellery apart from a single stud in each ear and that pupils are not permitted to wear false nails or eyelashes, or to have dyed hair during term time. Individuals have been spoken to, but we ask parents for your continued support with this matter and to ensure that your child/ren is in correct uniform each day. As stated in the jewellery letter last half term - any additional items of jewellery will be confiscated until the end of this half term. Remembrance Day is coming up on Monday. Poppies will be available at reception to purchase up to (and including) Monday 11 November. Funds raised by buying a poppy go to charity to help support members of the armed forces overcome issues such as depression, chronic pain and PTSD. See The Poppy Appeal for more information.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘The Agathas’ - Kathleen Glasgow & Liz Lawson

A dramatic and intriguing detective thriller, The Agathas focuses on two girls; Alice Ogilvie, an amateur (but stubborn) detective and Iris Addams, a super-smart girl with plenty of trouble on her mind. They’re pulled together suddenly when one of their town’s most popular girls, Brooke Donovan, disappears one stormy night after a party- and it seems that everyone is chasing after the wrong guy. With the police being as lazy as possible and missing some real big clues, it’s time for them to spring into their first case! Really good for anyone who loves an absolutely thrilling modern mystery.
