Cheryl Ayer Women in Weights and Measures - Chair

The National Council on Weights and Measures made a remarkable step forward when it voted to change the focus of our organization from Conference to Council.

Council: noun, an advisory, deliberative, or legislative body of people formally constituted and meeting regularly.

Councils play a vital role in fostering collaboration, decision-making, and progress within communities and organizations. They bring together individuals with varying backgrounds, experiences, and expertise to deliberate on important issues and chart a course of action that serves the collective good. A key strength of councils lies in their ability to unite diverse perspectives, ensuring that no single voice or viewpoint dominates the conversation. This diversity enriches discussions, enhances creativity, and leads to more well- rounded decisions that benefit everyone. Without a broad range of opinions, blind spots may persist, limiting the council’s capacity to address complex challenges effectively and members of NCWM are no strangers to complex challenges.
