A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12
Year 12 students returned back to school on Wednesday following their half-term break. I hope that they all had the opportunity to rest and catch up with family and friends during the break.
Yesterday, Year 12 Psychology students attended the annual ‘Psychology in Action’ conference, which took place in Central London. After leaving the event, they all commented on how interesting the talks were and what they found out after hearing so many academics talking about their research. Remembrance Day is coming up on Monday. Poppies will be available at the main school reception to purchase up to (and including) Monday 11 November. Funds raised by buying a poppy go to charity to help support members of the armed forces overcome issues such as depression, chronic pain and PTSD. See The Poppy Appeal for more information. Next Wednesday, students who have opted to take part in the Waldegrave MBA will attend the second day of this excellent opportunity. They will be taken off-timetable for the day to continue to develop work-related skills and start preparing the setting up and running of their own business. I am sure they are all looking forward to it! Our annual Parent Consultation Meetings also take place next Wednesday, where the parents and car- ers of the Year 12 students will have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teachers in order to get some feedback regarding their progress. This will be a virtual event. Finally, on Thursday, Dr Holly Robson, an Associate Professor from UCL, will be talking to the Psychology students about her research to all A Level Psychology students.
Have a great weekend!

‘You don’t understand me’ - Dr Tara Porter A relevant, poignant non-fiction book catalysing the understanding of young women’s experiences in adolescence and leading towards adulthood. Dr Tara Porter utilises her 27 years of experience as a therapist and psychologist to pinpoint the ‘why’ to our actions regarding friendships, education, love, body image etc. Using real life scenarios mixed with scientific knowledge, readers can develop more comfort in themselves and have a better perception of others over the 10 topics discussed. This is a must read for not only members of our school navigating teenage life, but also the parents of these students who strive to support their child/ren the best they can. I haven’t stopped mentioning this book since I read it! - Aisha Y, Year 12 BOOK OF THE MONTH
