Last week I took the one hour drive to Southampton for the BICC auction of the Golden Ring pigeons. I arrived well before the start of the auction so was able to get a good look at the pigeons as they were being put into the pens. The penning was very well organised by the helpers Martin Norman along with his brother and Clive Rogers. Looking as the birds were penned it was obvious that these gold rings were put on some very special pigeons, they were a real credit to the fanciers
them were purchased back by the fanciers who bred them. On a more serious note, prior to the start of the auction Tony gave an update on the health of Clare Norman saying that she would have liked to attend but due to her on her sessions of Chemotherapy her immune system would not allow her to mix with too
who put these pigeons up for auction. It was great to see the one and only Tony Cowan come out of retirement to be the auctioneer, believe me he has not lost any of his skill on the mike with many jokes said in between the Lots. Tony is a real character as an auctioneer with a great wit and rapport with his audience. It was a great turn out with over sixty pigeons penned, with many bargains to be had. I did notice that because of the quality of pigeons many of
many people. Tony rightly said that Clare is probably one of the best club secretaries on the planet who is greatly missed at these events but Clare’s health is much more important, we all wish her well for a speedy recovery. While watching Tony on stage it made me think of
