The demand for translation and interpreting is growing rapidly as more companies, institutions and people do business globally but expect to use services in their own language. As well as developing your language skills, you will gain knowledge and practical skills to prepare you for a career in translation or interpreting.

You can choose one or two languages from French, German, Italian or Spanish in addition to your native language. You will explore concepts of translation and interpreting, translation theory, computer-assisted translation and interpreting for business, health or law. To support your studies, we have PC labs equipped with the latest industry translation software, a new Televic conference interpreting suite, access to the College’s state-of-the-art eye-tracker, as well as excellent print and online library resources. You will also study abroad for a year to further develop your language and translation techniques and boost your career prospects. This degree can open doors to exciting careers in the UK or around the world, as a home-based freelancer, in-house translator with an agency, or in the translation department of a large company or organisation. Year 2 • Computer-Assisted Translation • Introduction to the Theory of Translation • Translation Project • Vocabulary Studies • The appropriate general language modules Year 3 During your third year, you will be given the opportunity to take advantage of the agreements we have in place with some of Europe’s most renowned translation schools. We currently have partners in Alcalá de Henares, Barcelona, Bologna (Forli), Brussels, Cologne, Granada, Geneva, Innsbruck, Mainz (Germersheim), Mons, Sevilla, Valencia, Valladolid, Vienna and Zurich. We have a dedicated year abroad tutor to help you every step of the way in the organisation of this important year. Year 4: • Interpreting – Health Option or Business Option or Law Option • The appropriate general language modules • Translation Work Experience for BA Students • Translation Workshop and Professional Purposes modules • Terminology Management
