Contrary to a medicalised understanding of individuals and their experiences, this programme aims to enable students to gain an understanding of sport and exercise subjects through a social scientific and humanistic lens, and to develop critical thinking and analytical skills that can be applied across the spectrum of academic and real world challenges. This approach will encompass conceptual, explanatory, and normative dimensions. The meaning of central values and concepts within sport will be analysed philosophically. Sporting cultures, practices, and experiences will be explored using sociological and psychological methods. Policy questions and principles of right conduct within sport will be examined ethically. Consequently, students will cultivate a deep and multi-disciplinary understanding of the meaning, value, and social role of sport.
