L&D Funding Principles

Professional Qualifications & Memberships

What is Supported

FirstPort are committed to your development and are prepared to support your studies and professional career. This includes:

• Registration and training fees for professional qualifications or external training courses. • Membership fees • CPD

Funding Routes

There are two routes to financial sponsorship:

1. Apprenticeship Levy – To check if the qualification you wish to take can be funded by the levy, please check here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/search-for-apprenticeship-standards. If you study an Apprenticeship qualification there are no changes to your contractual terms; this is just an alternative way of funding training, and the qualifications are typically more structured than traditional routes.

2. Directly funded – If your qualification cannot be funded by the Apprenticeship Levy then you can apply to have this funded by FirstPort.

Eligibility

• Colleagues who have completed their probationary period. • We will only financially sponsor one membership/qualification at any one time.

For directly funded courses, you will be required to complete a Learning Agreement which outlines your commitment to completing the programme and the following repayments terms should you leave FirstPort: • During the course- 100% of all fees paid • Within 6 months after course completion- 100% of all fees paid • Between 6 months and less than 12 months after course completion – 50% of all fees paid

Study and Exams

You can request and agree time off to study for examinations with your line manager (approximately half a day per exam), and you can have paid time off to sit your exams within the normal working day. We will fund one re-sit, further re-sits will need to be self-funded.

To apply for funding please complete an L&D Application Form and return to the L&D Team.
