ChromaScape Announces Acquisition Of Kemira Colorants & Dye Business Cleveland, Ohio based ChromaScape LLC, a specialty colorants and additives supplier, announced the acquisi- tion of Kemira’s colorants and dye business in a deal that closed on May 4, 2023. Kemira’s product line includes basic and direct dyes, organic pigments and special colorants which are used in numerous paper and packaging applications such as tis- sue, cardboard, newspaper and high-end packaging solu- tions for jewelry, cosmetics, and food stuffs. This acquisi- tion includes Kemira’s manufacturing site at Bushy Park in Goose Greek, South Carolina. “With this acquisition ChromaScape becomes the largest independent producer of dyes and pigment dis- persions in the United States and Europe. Our singular focus on color allows us to deliver exceptional value to our customers. We welcome the US and European asso- ciates who will transfer in the acquisition and look forward to continued collaboration with Kemira’s pulp and paper team,” said Seth Tomasch, CEO of ChromaScape, LLC. Chris Banks, Vice President of Sales, said they are very excited about the acquisition of the Kemira dye busi- ness. “Customers tell us that they want a domestic supply source as insurance against future supply chain shocks,” he said. “The Bushy Park plant provides this assurance. Our commitment to providing the best-in-class service ex- perience remains unchanged, and this acquisition will help us continue to deliver on that promise.” Domtar Shares Approach, Outlook on ESG Issues At MX.0 Southeast Event Fort Mill, South Carolina based Domtar, a part of the Paper Excellence group of companies, announced its appear- ance at the 3rd MX.0 Southeast Event where it shared its approach and outlook on Environmental, Social and Gov- ernance (ESG) issues. Paige Goff, Domtar’s vice president of sustainability, spoke to business leaders at the June event which fo- cused on data-driven, resilient and sustainable manufac- turing. When people talk about costs as a barrier to being more sustainable, Goff counters that it’s more expensive to do nothing. “There is an initial investment, but it pays off in the long run,” she says. “Our customers expect us to do the right thing and be responsible stewards of the environment. Our reputational risk is their reputational risk.” Similarly, she says, an effective ESG approach is import- ant for recruiting and retaining talent. The E in ESG gets the most attention, with the emphasis on environmental responsibility and care for natural resources. It’s an area where Domtar has been a leader, particularly in forestry.
