VELUX COMMERCIAL DELIVERED A VMS MODULAR SYSTEM DISPERSING LIGHT INTO THE CARDINAL NEWMAN LIBRARY, WHILE ALLOWING UNIFORMITY OF DESIGN STYLE IN EACH LOCATION… ROOFLIGHT SYSTEMS

As part of the VELUX Group, VELUX Commercial specialises in offering daylight and ventilation solutions for industrial, commercial and public buildings. Its product programme ranges from high-end bespoke glazing solutions for commercial and prestigious architectural buildings to domes, access hatches, smoke ventilation and continuous roof lights for industrial, warehouse and agricultural buildings. Established in 2019, VELUX Commercial comprises the former JET, Vitral and VELUX Modular Skylights organisations. Today, VELUX Commercial operates as one company and has 1,100 employees

working in sales, production and support functions in 13 countries. It offers to support building professionals throughout the entire process from specification to delivery and maintenance of daylight and ventilation solutions. Using designs by Isherwood & Ellis Architects, the company consulted on the specification of the rooflight system. Specification Manager Jamie Ure proposed the VMS Modular system, used on other projects with Isherwood & Ellis, as the most cost-effective and efficient from an installation perspective. Roy Glennon, Sales Manager, said, “We had no major challenges throughout the process, having modified our wall- mounted flashing detail mid-specification process. “However, these modifications were communicated by VELUX Commercial and adopted by Isherwood & Ellis into the REVIT model. In addition, initial NBS detailing suggested steel kerbs which were subsequently updated to concrete.” Introducing daylight through the roof of any building brings approximately twice

the amount of light compared to more traditional vertical glazing. With this project, the five-degree Ridgelight was used to fulfil daylight needs. Roy said, “This is a fabulous looking system which allows the designer to maintain a very low pitch on a Ridgelight without compromising on any external design considerations. It also facilitates the inclusion of pre-mounted blinds which are controlled remotely using RF handheld controllers. “The dispersal of light around the seating and common area frames a fantastic setting, which draws the eye in many directions to capture the architect’s design concept.” Engaging with Tracey Brothers, one of the country’s top construction firms, proved a simple, straightforward process with clear collaboration between the involved parties from conception to final installation. Having specified the VELUX Commercial modular for the project, clients were provided with concise detailing for the structural openings.
