ROE VALLEY INTEGRATED PRIMARY SCHOOL, LIMAVADY
ARCHITECTURAL GLAZING SYSTEMS Innovated Aluminium Technology Ltd (IAT) was appointed to supply and fit Secured by Design windows, doors and curtain walling in the school along with a capped rooflight system and Perspex canopy in a covered play area. As this was a design and build contract, the company had to liaise with the design team on various elements. A particularly challenging element was providing a watertight canopy using 16mm polycarbonate. The detail and design of this element had to be correct and fit for purpose. IAT opted for a sloped capped curtain walling system, allowing a sufficient pitch to allow surface run off. This was the first project manufactured by IAT using its computerised CNC machining centre and automatic saw. IAT has recently invested heavily in this equipment. ROOF TRUSSES Sub-contracted by Lowry Building & Civil Engineering (LBCE) Ltd to design the timber roof structure for Roe Valley Integrated Primary School, Quinn Building Supplies was involved in the design-and-build project from its early stages. Fearghus Quinn, Structural Engineer, said, “The project featured intricate geometry with portions of the roof vaulted on section and curved on plan, with the need to incorporate and support large roof lights. “This required precise collaboration with other specialist contractors and detailed surveying on site as the build progressed. “BIM modelling and regular reviews with the expert project team at Lowry’s, design team and other specialist contractors ensured all requirements could be included in our design prior to manufacture and delivery of trusses.” Having partnered with LBCE on a number of technically- challenging projects, Fearghus said the main contractor is always a pleasure to work with and Quinn Building Supplies wishes the firm continued success for the future.
