About the competition format A total of 24 teams are divided into six groups. We are in Group C. The last-16 round will be played from 29 th June to 2 nd July; the quarterfinals are scheduled for 5 th and 6 th July, the semis will be played on 9 th and 10 th July, with the final to be played in Ber- lin on 14 th July. The only country making its debut at this continental championship is Georgia, which qual- ified by eliminating Greece. Interesting facts Unbelievable but true – Cristiano Ronaldo will compete in his sixth European Championship in Ger- many. He debuted in 2004, before his national team teammate and Benfica ace Joao Neves was even born. This will be the fifth continental championship for Portugal’s Pepe and Croatia’s Luka Modrić. As many as nine previous winners of the trophy will compete in Germany: Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain, but also Czechia and Slovakia, which triumphed back when they were a sin- gle country (Czechoslovakia). This is the 17 th UEFA European Championship and Germany holds the re- cord for the number of times it has participated, at 14. It is also worth noting that Germany and Spain each have three titles. The championship’s prize fund totals 331 million euros, while the tournament’s win- ning team will be awarded 40 gold medals. Each na- tional team coach can register a maximum of 23 foot- ballers, with the deadline expiring seven days ahead of the first match.
ball, with a capacity for international matches set at 54,740 spectators. We’re certain that at least half of the stadium will be cheering on coach Dragan Stojk- ović’s squad. If you don’t know how you’d get to Gelsen- kirchen, we’re here to help. As the closest options, we of- fer you the airports in Düsseldorf and Cologne, which Air Serbia flies to directly. Gelsenkirchen is just 50 kilo- metres, or less than an hour’s drive, away from Düssel- dorf and 90 kilometres away from Cologne. You’ll have already arrived by the time you can sing two or three supporters’ songs. We play both Slovenia (20 th June) and Denmark (25 th June) at Munich’s Allianz Arena. You can reach the capital of Bavaria quickly thanks to Air Serbia’s direct flights from Belgrade to nearby Stutt- gart and Nuremberg. Frankfurt and Berlin are the best Interestingly, football fans have posted social media ratings of which German cities are the most affordable for fans from around Europe. For example, they calcu- lated numbers of bars and fast-food restaurants, then the costs of staying overnight and numbers of hotels located near the stadium or airport, as well as the av- erage price of drinks. The city that received the most points was Frankfurt, which Air Serbia flies to directly, as well as flying to Berlin, which ranked second. When it comes to ticket prices, they range from €30 for group stage matches, from €50 for the last-16 knock-out stage, from €60 for the quarterfinals, while you won’t secure entry to a semifinal match for less than €80. The cheap- est ticket for the final is priced at €95. More than 2.7 million spectators are expected to be in the stands over a total of 51 games. The organisers have also secured the assistance of more than 16,000 volunteers from across the continent.
