Welcome to Walton Cricket Club
Tucked away in the beautifully set village of Walton- on-Trent, the ground is one of the true hidden gems of Derbyshire cricket. Overlooking the River Trent and framed by the 14th-century St. Laurence’s Church, it’s no surprise that Walton Cricket Club was recently voted Most Improved Ground and now regularly hosts Derbyshire County Cricket League cup finals. Known as one of the best batting wickets around, it’s a ground where bowlers really have to earn their money. Home to the Walton Leopards, the club is on an incredible run both on and off the field. The First XI were promoted from Division 3 South in 2023 and are now competing strongly in Division 2 of the Derbyshire County League for a second consecutive year. The Second XI have enjoyed a phenomenal rise, earning three back-to-back promotions to climb into Division 6 South.
Beyond the senior teams, Walton also boasts a growing junior section with players across all age groups, and a brilliant women’s side that continues to go from strength to strength. The club sits in a village with deep roots, the name Walton itself is thought to come from Old English, meaning “settlement of the Britons.” The area is also closely tied to the brewing heritage of nearby Burton-upon-Trent and lies just a few miles from the historic site of the 1322 Battle of Burton Bridge. Above all, Walton CC is a club built on community. From weekend league matches and Friday night BBQs to a buzzing clubhouse bar, there’s always something going on and everyone is welcome.
