MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
AS I ENTER INTO THIS , my eighteenth year as a head of school, there are occasions when faces and experiences from the past tend to blur together just a bit. Each year generates its own successes that both build on one another and form a mosaic that depicts the history of the institution. It’s not any one success that necessarily stands out over time. Rather, the collection creates a beautiful depiction of the people and the experiences that make this place so special. I am reminded, too, of the large, all-school photograph taken on the front steps of Grace Cathedral on opening day that we have started to post in the school’s lobby. It is also a mosaic. Standing close to the photo, one can depict each individual member of the student body. Standing farther away, however, generates the visual presentation of the place as a whole—the amalgam of people that make up our community. This mosaic, the individuals forming a collective whole, represents the grand catalyst for philanthropy at Cathedral School for Boys. One of the attributes that distinguishes our school from others, at least in my experience, is that each individual, each contributor, is committed to the success of every boy. Another feature that distinguishes our school from others is the appreciation that our experience here was made possible by those who came before us. That continuum of support makes the school all that it
is now and will allow it to stand as an even stronger institution in the future. The Annual Report stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of our community—parents, alumni, trustees, faculty, staff, and friends—whose support sustains and strengthens our Mission. You are integral to the artistry of Cathedral School for Boys, a community that continues to grow, evolve, and inspire. It is through your partnership that we hold our boys up with such care and dedication, nurturing them as they become, in the words of our Mission, scholars and leaders of strong moral character. When I arrived in 2015 as the Head of School, I could not have foreseen how profoundly this experience would shape my life and leadership. Serving this remarkable institution has been both a privilege and a joy. I appreciate the influence each member of this community has had on the School, on my family, and on my two boys, who were transformed by this place. Very truly yours,
Burns Jones Head of School
