2023 Invitational Sponsorship Guide

Greetings Art Lovers,

For nearly three decades the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association has worked tirelessly to preserve and promote the artistic heritage of Laguna Beach, particularly the Plein Air Panting Legacy upon which our town was founded as an Artist Colony. It is with great honor we present this year the 25th Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational, which will take place the week of October 7-15, 2023. The best week of the year to be in Laguna Beach will culminate with the Collectors Gala on Saturday, October 14th, hosted “en plein air” at the Laguna Festival of Arts. While all of our events will take place in Laguna, we are delighted to offer virtual access to parts of our schedule for those who wish to celebrate the plein air painting tradition with us from afar. Over the last several years LPAPA’s determination to not only survive but to thrive and grow was realized with an outpouring of support from patrons like you that allowed us to achieve our dream of opening our own independent art gallery in Laguna Beach. We invite you to join us at the gallery where we celebrate Laguna’s plein air painting legacy all year long; we open a new show on First Thursdays Art Walk each month, and our regular hours are Thursday through Monday, 11AM - 5PM and by appointment. Our beautiful gallery is located at 414 North Coast Highway at the north end of Gallery Row. As we prepare to celebrate our 25th year hosting the best plein air painting event in the country, we ask for your support so that we may continue to enhance our educational programs and outreach, support the livelihoods of both our emerging and established artist members, and preserve the Laguna Plein Air painting tradition in order to inspire painters to get outside and paint our beautiful community for years to come. Please consider becoming a Sponsor or Supporter of the 25th Annual Laguna Beach Plein Painting Invitational! You will find details of all Sponsorship and ticket purchase opportunities enclosed. Celebrate the legacy, be part of the tradition! We look forward to seeing you in October!

OUR MISSION To preserve and promote the renowned Plein Air painting legacy of Laguna Beach and to enhance the livelihood and visibility of all our artist members through gallery shows, mentoring, workshops and our Annual Invitational. The Laguna Plein Air Invitational Artists, c. 2018

Founding Members In 1996, the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) was founded when Saim Caglayan invited his outdoor painting friends – Ken Auster, Jacobus Baas, Cynthia Britain and John Cosby – to join him in forming the organization. The primary motivation was to link the strong plein air movement of the early California painters to the present ones and to create a bond amongst the contemporary plein air painters throughout the nation. Signature Members LPAPA Signature Members are artists who have been juried for this level of professional designation in recognition of his/her remarkable talent and capability in creating a work of art. Artist Members LPAPA Artist Membership is open to painters at all experience levels and all painting mediums. Student Members Student Membership is open to those currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution. Supporter Members LPAPA Supporter Members are those individuals, businesses and organizations that support LPAPA’s mission, programs and artists. Invitational Artists Invitational Artists are a select group of the nation’s top award winning plein air artists who have been recognized as having superior talents in creating a plein air work of art, who are invited to gather in Laguna Beach each October to paint and compete for prizes.

LPAPA’s Plein Air Project is a multi-generational education program that includes grades 4 through 12, college students and adults. When you support LPAPA, you are supporting an art education program that is dedicated to California’s history and Laguna’s artistic legacy… designed to inspire the next generation of artists and support today’s professional and emerging artists, and continue the plein air painting tradition.
