BGCDC NEW ANNUAL REPORT

ANNUAL HIGHLIGHTS

MCKENZIE REGIONAL WORKFORCE CENTER

BGCDC and Madison Area Builders Association (MABA) are on a path to addressing the shortage of trained skilled trades workers by establishing a Regional Skilled Trades Training Center and Program. The building is being purchased and donated to BGCDC by John McKenzie and family. The NEW Center and Program will mean creating opportunities for youngadults toaccess resources, programming, andsupport systems that will mitigate achievement gaps, create economic opportunities, accelerate economic mobility and generate transformational change for families in South Central Wisconsin. The skilled trades job market in Madison, Wisconsin and the surrounding area is very active. As of April 30, 2021, the average annual pay for the skilled trades jobs category in Madison is $42,024 a year. The McKenzie Regional Workforce Center will educate and support interested youth (16-24) to pursue careers as plumbers, carpenters, HVAC technicians, and electricians, to name just a few of the possibilities. Curriculum will also include entrepreneurial classes to show our youth how they can potentially build a business in the construction trades. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County and Madison Area Builders Association are raising funds for an endowment to ensure the center is self-sustaining. We appreciate the support of all our partners, our donors and the community for helping to make this the largest regional skilled trades workforce center in Wisconsin.
