EVOLVING CARE, EXPANDING POSSIBILITIES Things Are Blossoming at Horizon!

Spring is a time for growth and rebirth, and we are growing! We added a new physical therapist in January. By the end of the year, we plan to expand our team further by bringing a clinical administrative executive on board and possibly another executive position. Last year, we grew by 10%–15%. With the addition of a new therapist to our team this year, we will achieve similar growth. We now have six skilled therapists, each bringing their expertise and compassionate approach to patient care. So, what does all this growth mean for you, our valued patients? It allows us to distribute our workload more effectively. When you visit us, you get more than a treatment; you receive a tailored experience where your needs, concerns, and goals are heard and addressed. We will be able to provide you with an even higher level of service with your comprehensive care plans and heightened attention to the nuances of your therapy. Before the pandemic, we expanded our facility to accommodate our growing patient base and services. However, with the influx of new patients and the addition of more staff members, we will soon be nearing our capacity limits again. We are exploring options for a larger space to continue providing our patients with the comfortable and conducive environment they deserve for their therapy sessions. Despite this expansion, Horizon remains a small business at heart. Our intimate setting ensures we know each of our patients personally, and they, in turn, are familiar with all of us. The close-knit environment fosters a sense of community and trust, which is central to effective therapy. Our growth can be attributed to our high-level staff. Their dedication to patient care and professional development has been a cornerstone of our progress. Looking back, I realize we are much further along than I anticipated when I opened the business 12 years ago. I’ve learned a lot about myself in the past 12 years and understand what I need to succeed. The importance of building relationships has been pivotal. Building a business requires more than hard work; it necessitates working cohesively as a team, being proactive rather than reactive, and preemptively addressing potential issues.

My vision for Horizon extends far beyond the physical confines of our building. I am committed to building a community — a place where our staff can flourish professionally and our patients can find solace and strength. I’ve learned to view competition not as a threat but as a temperature gauge. It helps me ensure we are meeting, if not exceeding, the demands and needs of the market. The true measure of our success is not in outdoing the competitors but in fulfilling the needs of our patients in a way that is both effective and profitable. The question that guides every decision we make at Horizon is, “Do we serve a need in a way that is beneficial to our patients and sustainable for our practice?” As we embrace this season of growth and renewal, I am filled with gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead. Together with my team, we are committed to enhancing services, expanding our reach, and continuing to provide a level of care that reflects the values and vision of Horizon Physical Therapy.

Don’t Shelve Vitamin B12

Getting your daily intake of vitamin B12 is crucial, as it keeps blood and nerves healthy. It even helps build DNA! B12 supplements and a vitamin-rich diet provide many advantages. While most people get enough vitamin B12 from their regular diets, vegetarians, adults over 50, and people with underlying conditions must ensure they get enough of this powerful vitamin for these five reasons. KEEPS BLOOD CELLS HEALTHY Vitamin B12 is very good for your blood cell health. It helps keep them small, round, and flowing smoothly. Meanwhile, a deficiency can make them larger and oddly shaped. The malformed cells have much more trouble flowing from the marrow to the bloodstream. This slowness is one of the causes of anemia, making you tired and weak. PROTECTS EYESIGHT As we get older, our risk for macular deterioration goes up. Our retinas start to lose their effectiveness until our eyesight diminishes. Vitamin B12 reduces

this retinal loss. Experts say that B12 might reduce the amount of a particular amino acid, which may contribute to macular deterioration. HELPS HEAL DEPRESSION Serotonin is a hormone responsible for our moods, thoughts, and brain power. Depression is linked to B12 deficiency, and many anti- depressants work by increasing the hormone. People with lower B12 levels can feel less depressed by taking supplements. KEEPS YOUR SKIN, NAILS, AND HAIR HEALTHY Getting the right amount of B12 is essential for the health of your skin, nails, and hair. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause hair loss, discoloration, and skin patches. These issues may be because proper blood flow is necessary for keratin growth, a protein that is essential to all three. HELPS FIGHT MEMORY LOSS As we get older, brain deterioration is one of our biggest worries. Memory loss is a natural

consequence of aging. Vitamin B12 deficiency correlates with memory loss and even brain atrophy. Once we get older, getting one’s B12 levels checked is extremely important. GET YOUR LEVELS CHECKED If you’re worried about your B12, consult with your primary care doctor. Doing so is especially important if you’re experiencing symptoms like fatigue, memory loss, and anxiety. There are many ways to combat B12 deficiency, so long as you know about it. When it comes to your health, knowledge is power!

YES, YOUR HOME EXERCISE PLAN MATTERS! THE PATH TO RECOVERY Balancing Healing and Progress

During your physical therapy sessions, our therapists are right there with you, assisting you in gently pushing through your discomfort. It’s a delicate balance, but your therapist understands your limits and the right amount of pressure to apply. Our goal isn’t to overwhelm you but to encourage your body’s natural healing process. The approach helps you regain mobility and reduce stiffness, which sets the foundation for further recovery. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? Every person is unique, as is the pace at which healing occurs. Some may find that progress comes swiftly, while others need more time. That’s perfectly normal. Your therapy schedule considers your needs and how much time your body needs to heal. An important part of your recovery process is what you do in between our physical therapy sessions. Healing continues outside of the clinic as well. Rest, icing, and compression can help manage pain and swelling. WHAT ARE THE EXERCISES FOR? The exercises we prescribe for you to perform at home are an integral part of your healing. By following the prescribed routine, you actively

contribute to your recovery. However, be mindful of your limitations. Overexertion is counterproductive, and it can be harmful. The goal is to find a balance that allows your body to heal while gradually regaining strength. Consistent, regular movement and exercise build the endurance and strength of your muscles. Strong muscles improve your physical capabilities and support your injured joints more. This support is vital in preventing future injuries and ensuring a stable recovery. As your therapist, understanding your pain levels and how you’re coping with exercises is vital. Honesty about what you are feeling helps us adjust your exercise schedule realistically. We need to strike the right balance between rest and activity. Too much rest can slow your recovery, while too much exercise can hinder it. The correct ratio is different for each person. Your feedback allows us to tailor your recovery plan to fit your specific needs so that each step toward recovery is safe and effective. Healing is a process that cannot be rushed. It requires time, effort, and a considerable amount of patience. We are here to support you every step of the way.

Enjoy Better Health With Fasting

• It promotes blood sugar control by lowering insulin sensitivity — so fasting decreases the chances of getting Type 2 diabetes. • Fasting reduces acute inflammation and improves chronic inflammation, which has serious consequences for heart disease, cancer, and other serious conditions. • It improves heart health by lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, decreasing the odds of developing heart disease. • Regular fasting may boost brain function and prevent neurodegenerative disorders. • Fasting helps with weight loss by increasing growth hormone secretion. TYPES OF FASTING Before engaging in any fasting routine, check with your health practitioner to make sure you are making a choice that aligns with your continued health and wellness. There are many types of fasting, including: • Juice Fasts — You only drink fruit or vegetable juices for the duration of the fast. • Water Fasts — You can only drink water for a regulated period of time. • Intermittent Fasting — This technique restricts food intake, wholly or partially, throughout the day or for part of the week. You can eat as you usually would on the off hours or days. Fasting, a healthy diet, and exercise offer many health benefits and help keep your body and mind spry as you age. Talk to your doctor to see if fasting can be a reasonable part of your life plan.

Fasting for Vitality Take Charge of Your Health

Fasting is a popular diet trend at the moment. You can find videos all over the internet about the benefits people have had while engaging in fasting. Fortunately, unlike many fad diets, the fasting trend is positive, as research has shown it offers many health benefits. Here’s a look at a few of those. WHY SHOULD YOU FAST? When the body stops getting calories, you start burning fat reserves in your body. This fat is sent to the liver and converted into acids called ketones. Ketones are used as fuel to run your body and brain like a backup generator when it doesn’t have food. This process is called ketosis and happens when you fast. Besides burning fat, fasting offers other benefits.
