ADRIAN BACKUS, JD, MDIV Director of Church Partnerships and Community Outreach Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN) Adrian Backus has more than thirty years of experience as an executive in educational and religious institutions, international assistance programs, and industry. He currently serves as director for partnership development and outreach for the Prostate Health Education Network. Rev. Backus holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law, and a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. Additionally, he served for 15 years as Princeton Theological Seminary’s first vice president for information technology. COURTNEY BUGLER President & CEO, ZERO Prostate Cancer Courtney Bugler is a trailblazing nonprofit executive with extensive experience in leading national health charities to advance program development, organizational infrastructure, fundraising, and advocacy. Throughout her career, Courtney has been passionate about driving systemic progress in public health to save lives. Courtney is a highly trained consumer advocate with more than fifteen years of expertise in cancer, healthy equity, chronic disease management, and public health communications. She’s lobbied on Capitol Hill for more than a billion dollars in funding toward the DOD’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program and has served as a consumer advocate research grant reviewer for that program. SHONTA CHAMBERS, MSW Executive Vice President, Health Equity Initiatives & Community Engagement, Patient Advocate Foundation Shonta Chambers is a seasoned non-profit executive and public health professional whose career spans more than 25 years of experience in chronic disease prevention, health promotion, community engagement, and women’s health. She is responsible for the development and execution of PAF’s national strategy to address health equity, with a specific focus on persons residing in low-income communities. Shonta drives program initiatives that respond to unaddressed social determinants of health and the social need gaps caused by them. As staff lead for PAF’s health equity work promoting person-centered care, she engages with community stakeholders to mitigate barriers to health care. WILLIAM L. DAHUT, MD Chief Scientific Officer, American Cancer Society, Inc. Dr. William L. Dahut is chief scientific officer of the American Cancer Society where he oversees the strategic direction of intramural and extramural research. Dr. Dahut manages all pieces of ACS’ Discovery Pillar, including surveillance and health equity science, population science, cancer screening guidelines, and extramural discovery science. He serves as the scientific voice of the organization, advises key discovery positions, and manages more than $400 million in research funding. Dr. Dahut guides efforts to enhance and focus ACS’ research program, concentrating priorities where they will be most effective and working with key partners and supporters to further progress.
