Microgrants

Empowering communities through Microgrants helps generate Social Buzz around a big event. By facilitating smaller community-led events and activities, Microgrants help event organisers and other stakeholders address inequalities.

Support community initiatives around big events through a no-fuss funding scheme.

How Microgrants help

Microgrants designed using the EAST framework (Easy, Accessible, Social and Timely action) reduce friction for community involvement and remove barriers to engagement. Combined, they improve event outcomes. For example, if a sludge audit shows that older people have nowhere comfortable to watch a sporting event, a Microgrant could support a community centre to cater for the needs of spectators. Microgrants also value volunteering, creating more goodwill for the future.

A little goes a long way

Community groups and activities are powered by volunteers operating with limited resources. These groups know how to get their community engaged, deliver great events and put limited funds to good use. Microgrant trials in Doncaster have shown that grants between £25 and £200 make a real difference. With the bulk of applications less than £50, a little truly does go a long way. With a list of Microgrant recipients it is also easy to see how events fit together as a programme, bringing cross- community benefits.
