Dr. Andrew Arana – Florida Power & Light Principal Engineer, Transmission Planning Department

Dr. Andrew Arana is a Principal Engineer in the Transmission Planning department of Florida Power & Light (FPL). His focus areas include stability analysis, transfer capability analysis, design of remedial action schemes, power system stabilizer settings, and model improvements. Dr. Arana has full or partial responsibility for over a dozen NERC Reliability Standards and several FRCC standards. Dr. Arana participates in NERC, EPRI, EIPC, IEEE, and other industry organizations. In addition, he plays an active role in developing procedures and performing analysis for the FRCC Stability Analysis Subcommittee. Dr. Arana spent his first four years at FPL working in Operations Engineering before moving to Transmission Planning. He continues to support Operations Engineers and provide training to control center operators. He received his Ph.D. and MSEE from Virginia Tech, and BSEE from Dalhousie University
