Food Allergies

It is important to know what to do if you become aware an individual has a food allergy. These allergies can be life threatening.

People can be allergic to many types of food. For example - milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, nuts, soya, glucose, celery or mustard. Preservatives such as Sulphur Dioxide may also cause allergic reactions.

You need to be aware of:

1.The specific food allergy. 2.What foods may include this specific food product? Acorns' procedure for ensuring all kitchen staff are aware of individual allergies. 3. 4.The signs of an allergic reaction. 5.What to do in the event of an allergic reaction.

The most important thing to remember is that if you suspect that the individual is having an allergic reaction dial 999 and explain that the person is having a reaction to the food they may have eaten.
