Basic Life Support for Children

For the purpose of basic life support, a baby is under 1 years of age and a child is 1 years and over up to their 18th birthday.

For Babies - 5 rescue breaths are needed over their nose and mouth before you start chest compressions.

For Children - 5 rescue breaths are needed over their mouth while gently pinching their nose shut, before you start chest compressions.

Once rescue breaths are given - complete 30 chest compressions to 2 rescue breaths until the ambulance arrives.

For babies use 2 fingers in the centre of the chest (As seen in the video).

For Children use one palm of your hand in the centre of the chest.
