Christ in one beautiful composite pic ture. It was like two mountain ranges seen from a distance. One cannot see the valley in between. The church was not given in the Old Testament. Isaiah, therefore, saw the first and second coming as a unit. The same is true with the other writers. The bap tism of the Holy Spirit did happen as we see from Acts 2. The fire, how ever, is at His second coming. The next verse proves it, “Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff wi t h unquenchable fire” (Matthew 3:12). This is the judg mental scene. The Lord Jesus didn’t do this in His first coming. Q . Modesto, California — “Are there de grees of punishment in the life to come?” A. Yes, there are. We read of those who have heard and rejected God’s truth who shall “be beaten with many stripes” (Luke 12:46). The degrees of punishment, however, are relative ly insignificant. The tremendously im portant factor is that those who have not received the Lord Jesus Christ are to be eternally separated from God. Our finite minds cannot begin to fa thom how terrible hell will be. Let us remember that God sends no man to hell. This is a decision every man makes for himself (John 3:16-18). God is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (II Peter 3:9). BIOLA HOUR RADIO LOG (Continued from insde front cover) Newton, Kansas KJRG 950 9:00 A.M. Radio Questions (continued from page 20) thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath: so that a man hath no pre-eminence above a beast: for all is vanity.” Here is the preacher who is despondent. Everything seems to be on the same level and he can’t see any differentiation. He has t r i e d this world for all it is worth and has found no satisfaction to the frustra tion of life. But see the confidence which God gives, “Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?” (Verse 21). We must remember that this impor tant book of the Bible was specifically written to show what happens when man looks at life from his natural vantage point. Only human beings have both souls and spirits, the latter needing redemption through the sav ing grace’ of our Lord Jesus Christ. Q . Redondo Beach, California — “In the King James version, Philippians 2:6 reads, ‘Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.’ In the Amplified New Testament the words ‘not to be taken’ are used. Does this mean that Christ was equal with God?” A. Yes, it certainly does. Christ didn’t need to grasp for a title which was already His. He didn’t have to try to acquire it or to take it by force or deception. He was one with God and He is one with God. Throughout Scripture there is this glorious union pointed up. God eternally exists in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Q . San Francisco, California — “In Mat thew 3:11 I find a portion of Scrip ture that is of concern to me, especial ly the part where it says, ‘He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.’ Has fire ever been used?” A. No, it has not. Here is the mes sage of a prophet, John the Baptist, who, like those in the Old Testament, sees two advents of our Lord Jesus
