ARE YOU UNPREPARED?

by John Hunter

T here is another personal and practical question I want to ask you. Are you prepared? It wasn’t so long ago that I was speaking at a college briefing con ference in California. One young man came to me and explained that he was in a seminary and preparing for the ministry. His visit had a note of desperation as he came late one night. In his explanation he declared, “I’m ready to be ordained. I know both Greek and Hebrew. I am well versed on all the doctrine and have no trou ble preaching. But my one great prob lem is that I am unprepared to set out on a life’s work of preaching the Word of God. It’s not that I ’m shy or nervous, but I’m worried about moving into areas of life where there are spiritual problems and also domes tic difficulties. I know all the prom ises and Scriptures, but have you truth you could give me so that I could pin my soul on it and begin my life’s ministry in the service of God with a sense of preparedness?” This was a frank and revealing ad mission for one who is going to be a man of God. What a thrill to talk with him. There are many of us who know and love the Lord Jesus Christ; we know how to have our sins forgiv en. We know we are going to heaven when we die. Yet somehow we are not prepared for the battle of life. There are so many fears, anxieties, and frus trations. Because we aren’t pre pared, we usually panic and thereby lose the joy and blessing of our sal vation. I turned this young man to Colossians 2:6 and 7, “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord so walk, ye in him, rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiv ing.” We thought together through these wonderful verses. They so aptly describe the sufficiency of Jesus

Christ to meet any and every situa tion. This youth recognized his need, along with his total inability to meet that need. He came to the cross and said, “Lord Jesus, I’m a sinner, there’s nothing I can do about it. But You died for sinners. Therefore You died for me. So blessed Saviour I want to receive you here and now into my heart. Thank you for dying for "MARANATHA" If the Lord should come today, Are you ready? Signs around us multiply, All creation heaves a sigh, Many now believe "The Lie". Are you ready? Evil men wax worse and worse, Are you ready? "A s the days of Noah were," Sensual sins have great allure, •Yet some Christians hardly stir, Are you sleeping? Are you found with those who care, Or are you shirking? Put all other things aside, Preach the Gospel far and wide And to loved ones by your side, Speed your working! Some indeed, may scoff at you: Will you mind them? Does it matter if they laugh, Just they find His "rod and staff": They have never known the half, Will you find them? — Marie Nyquist me.” We both knew that this is the way we receive eternal life. We come with all our need and all our inability, totally unable to meet the situation. The Saviour is all sufficient. I said to my friend, “Can you prove that your sins are forgiven ? Have you any document pinned up in your room that legally signifies the fact?” While no 28
